Urgent Message from Camden County Emergency Management and Camden County public safety partners:

On the evening of Friday, June 18th, emergency services responded to several reports of a person unconscious or unresponsive. Upon arriving at each of these incidents life saving measures had to be performed by first responders. This included CPR and the emergency administration of Narcan. Unfortunately, not all were able to be revived from their condition.

In each instance it was determined the life threatening event was likely caused by the use of illegal recreational narcotics laced with a deadly amount of Fentanyl. Investigation into these incidents has revealed that an unknown person, or persons, had recently distributed these deadly mixes of narcotics into our community. If anyone has recently purchased recreational use narcotics, including ma*****na, law enforcement is pleading that they not use them as they may be related to the incidents in question. If you know of someone who suffers from addiction please check on them to ensure they have not obtained any of these tainted substances.

At this time, ALL recreational use narcotics, including ma*****na, should be considered a serious threat to life safety.

If anyone has any information regarding these incidents or where these deadly doses came from, please reach out to local law enforcement as you may be saving a life.

UPDATE 9/5/2019: The mandatory evacuation has been lifted.

This evening, Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) issued a mandatory evacuation order for all six coastal counties in Georgia effective at noon on Monday. This mandatory evacuation order will impact all citizens residing east of Interstate 95.

Residents should be aware that there are no approved shelters in Camden County due to the potential for flooding. All residents should use caution due to heavy congestion on our roadways as a result of other evacuations occurring in neighboring states.

When choosing an evacuation route, consider these points:

- Keep a road map in your car. GPS units only work when you have a specific destination to which you are traveling. They may not work as well when you have no set destination. You may also want to conserve cell phone battery power.

- Traveling north or south out of the county may lead to less traveled secondary roads.

- Secondary roads that may be lesser known, may also be less traveled.

- Listen to radio information about possible road closures due to congestion or flooding.
