On World Autism Awareness Day, we'd like to remind Virginians of our ✉️ Blue Envelope Program. ✉️

Blue envelopes inform police officers that a driver is on the spectrum. This can inform the officer and help decrease the stressfulness of interactions between individuals with autism and the police.

They also act as a storage place for all the resources that the driver may need in the case of an interaction.

Envelopes are available at DMV Customer Service Centers across Virginia.

April 2 is Autism Awareness Day 💙

It may seem like a small thing…
just wearing blue.

But for so many families,
it means being seen.
being understood.
being accepted.

👉 Autism isn’t always visible
👉 Kindness is always powerful

Today, we wear blue
for the children who feel overwhelmed
for the parents who fight silent battles
and for a world that is still learning to understand

💙 Wear blue.
💙 Show you care.
💙 Choose understanding over judgment.

🙏 If you support autism awareness, please share
You never know who needs to feel seen today.

9 April- PEATC online workshop on “The Power of Family Engagement in Early Childhood” on Thursday, April 9th from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Building positive relationships between schools and families supports our children’s learning and development. Strong home-school connections create a more positive experience and help our children improve their relationships, health, and school success leading to more positive long-term outcomes. By taking an active role in the early years, schools and parents can help ensure our children have the support they need to develop to their full potential. In this interactive workshop, we are discussing what “family engagement” means to us and learning how both parents and professionals share in the responsibility for the success of all children including children with disabilities. This webinar will be presented on Zoom. They will not be recorded Presented by PEATC in partnership with Stafford County Public Schools. 9 April- The Arc of NoVA online “Transition Lunch & Learn” on Thursday, April 9th from noon to 1pm. Transition Lunch and Learn is held on the second Thursday of the month, facilitated by Diane Monnig, Director of Programs. These sessions are not recorded. Planning to transition from school to adult services can be overwhelming. Once your child exits the school system, adult services are based on eligibility criteria and funding availability. These small group sessions are an opportunity to begin creating a plan for the future. Learn what employment and meaningful day support services are available, how to explore post-secondary options, what transportation supports exist, how to help your child make decisions and advocate, when to apply for SSI and manage benefits, and what recreation activities are available. This informal opportunity is to ask questions and discuss with the facilitator and other participants. All of our webinar events are FREE to attend, but pre-registration is required at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/QCxxcoCvTyqBDIdVA4VAUQ #/registration.

Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Transition Lunch & Learn. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.
