Please share this upcoming weekly counseling group with anyone you think could benefit. It will be focused on the cultivation of meaning. We live in such an overstimulating world. There is such a growing shadow of negativity in the news, our country, and the world. In times of perceived danger I find my threat radar pulls more and more power and attention to look outwardly, which usually results in defensive and aggressive behavior or thought beginning to dominate consciousness. I see everything and everyone else through a lens of threat. Having more spaces to turn inward together may be one helpful thing to provide. Rediscovering the reason our pain and trials are worth it. Feeling again that there is meaning in facing this day, not just with grim stoicism, but in joyful victory. Seeing the beauty in the infinite variety of what gives others meaning to fight. When psychologist Carl Jung was frequently asked “will we (humanity) make it?” his consistent answer was “if enough people will do their inner work.” I don’t know that there has ever been a better time to trust this advice.

Reclaiming Meaning
A facilitated group therapy experience

Time: Tuesdays 7:00-8:15pm starting November 4th 2025
Location: in person. Contact for details

“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”

In an age where we are flooded by electronic over-stimulation, where increasing negativity manifests in our country and our world, we need more spaces to turn inward and cultivate that which gives us meaning. What keeps you going? What makes all the sacrifices in your life worth it? The aim of this group is to help you rediscover that meaning if lost, strengthen it if weak, or deepen and share with a positive like-minded community. Occasional speakers will be invited to share their path towards meaning and purpose.

Honored to share my testimony from the 7th annual Addiction Awareness Vigil in downtown New Cannaan on 8/30. My 86 year old father, 30 years in recovery, introduced me. Discharged from the hospital the night before, he showed incredible resilience and courage in making sure he attended, and that no one was going to be walking a mic to him. As is obvious from listening, my father stole the show while speaking for 1/10th the time. Nothing new there.....

I am writing to express my concern for the mental health of our community. Research is showing from multiple sources that rates of anxiety and depression have significantly increased. The Kaiser family foundation reports that approximately half of Americans are experiencing anxiety or depression, and that the majority of Americans feel the worst is yet to come. As a licensed therapist and person in recovery, I see firsthand the effects of isolation, anxiety, and substance use in the community. It disrupts, paralyzes, and sometimes ends lives. Many people feel cut off from their life and a sense of grief for their pre-pandemic life. There is fear about job security or unemployment. Many struggle to imagine a vision of their future with the tremendous uncertainty we face. We need to maintain the connections we have or get help creating them. I have a few suggestions. Try to find a work out video that inspires you or a daily run to lift or maintain your mood. There are tremendous resources available for every imaginable sport or style of movement. Select the days and times of your workouts and stick to them. They will help to anchor your days if anxiety and depression are picking at you. The link at the bottom is a starting point. Find a way to connect! Connect through telephone, text, WhatsApp, google hangouts, Instagram, snapchat, anything, but make sure it’s something. Zoom with family, friends, or coworkers and initiate it if no one else does. Take socially distanced walks with friends. Be responsible but try to engage in some social activity. Our need for contact with people has been severely tested. If you are struggling alone with substance use, there are thousands of zoom meetings available and welcoming. Try the links below. It is hard enough to convince people to meet with a professional or attend 12 step meetings in the best of times. The current lack of access is an additional obstacle. If you are struggling, please speak to a friend, family member, or professional. There are many local therapists doing video sessions and apps like TalkSpace for remote therapy. Our lives have changed dramatically and we should accept help to create a new vision for a new future. The last suggestion is to look at your mental diet. Being barraged with frightening health or negative political news is not conducive to a positive, relaxed mind. Find some positive news sources to sample and be conscious of what you ingest. I know the mental health of our community is strained. Let’s help those struggling within our families or networks to recover with us.
