Restore The Sauna Way

It's not a spa, but a gentle reset. A simple, quiet space for you to enjoy alone or with friends. (And the chickadees and sparrows who will visit you while you're outside, enjoying the fresh air and fire.)

Winter mornings can be brutal—but sauna changes the whole vibe for me. I've said this many times before, Sauna has helped me acclimate to all seasons and temperatures. Some mornings, instead of shocking my body awake with caffeine and stress, heat gently warms my muscles, boosts circulation, and tells my nervous system to calmly prepare for the day. I step out of the sauna feeling grounded, clear-headed, and already accomplished—before the day even starts!

Aaaaahhhhhh..... Evening sauna really softens the edges of the day—your body exhales, your mind quiets, and sleep starts to feel inevitable. I'm typically not open in evenings during the winter because everything's by candlelight and lanterns but I recently hosted a group of regulars who came after work one night. I heard lots of catching up and laughter in the sauna, but I think by the end of it everyone was reconnected, renewed and ready for a good nights sleep! I still haven't figured out if I like morning or evening Sauna better… What is your favorite time to Sauna? Should I open up some evening hours on the regular?

Many of us have already lived a lot of resilience. My upcoming workshop Sisu & Sauna-A Quiet Strength isn’t about building more grit—it’s about remembering the strength that we already have. Sisu is a Finnish concept of quiet inner strength where we are not forcing, striving, or pushing but are staying present, rooted, and steady through difficulty. Therapist and author Colleen Johnston , LCSWR, will provide the tools to reframe your resilience. Through sauna, we will show you how Sisu lives in endurance with softness and how it's relational—with nature, breath, body, and community. This workshop on February 28th is a closed cohort, however if it is something that speaks to you, DM me to be put on a waiting list for openings in the next cohort. I am super excited to share this beautiful concept of quiet strength and how we can utilize sauna to remind ourselves to be present and recognize the inner power that we already have.

The next time you visit, try grounding in between Sauna rounds. Simply standing in the grass, hugging a tree or holding onto one of the branches of the shrubs around the fire pit will ground you. You can actually feel it! We know this instinctively as children as we spend time outside in the sunshine, rolling in the grass and climbing trees. Unfortunately, this innate knowledge sometimes gets lost along the path to adulthood. Because trees (and grass, plants etc) carry a subtle electrical grounding effect, when you touch or hug one your body can exchange electrons with the earth through the tree, helping neutralize excess positive charge from stress, screens, and modern life. This grounding gently signals safety to your nervous system, shifting you out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-repair. As your body relaxes, stress hormones drop, circulation improves, and inflammatory responses calm down. I wish we reinforced this knowledge in school so kids can grow up better understanding their natural ability to manage stress and feel good.

When I'm in the sauna, warmth, stillness, and steady breathing tell my nervous system: you’re okay now. Sometimes it takes a while but eventually thoughts slow. Muscles soften. Guard drops.

For me, this is where real rest begins — not forcing relaxation, but creating the conditions for safety so my body can let go and truly rest ************************************Book your own private sauna session Wednesday through Sunday at www.thesaunaway.com or via link in bio .
