TODAY, November 20th, is National Rural Health Day, and we have been celebrating all week long by spotlighting a few of our incredible, long-term staff!

Today, we're grateful to highlight one of our Resident Helpers, Melissa Peterson. Melissa has been employed with MCHC for 24 years!

Melissa told us,
"I choose rural healthcare because we are very fortunate to have this facility in our community. It cuts down the drive time for everyday appointments and emergencies."

Today, we are celebrating one of our wonderful nursing home LPNs, Val Axelson. Val has been serving at MBH for over 16 years.

Val says, "We're hardworking people, and it takes dedication to keep this facility running strong. In a small community like ours, everyone has to be committed to the mission. The people who stay with us are truly great—they're here because they care."

Thank you, Val, for the heart you have for our residents. 💚

In preparation for National Rural Health Day on Thursday, November 20th, we are celebrating a few of our incredible, long-term staff!

Kim Ellis has been employed with us for 34 years!

Kim told us, "I like working in rural healthcare because it's a smaller facility, you have personal relationships, and you know everyone. It is like one big family, and you get better patient care."

We appreciate you, Kim! Cheers to many more years at MCHC 💚

This Thursday, November 20th, is National Rural Health Day, but we are going to celebrate all week long by spotlighting a few of our incredible staff!

First up, Cari Stammen. Cari has been with MCHC for just over 17 years.

We asked Cari what she loves most about working in a rural healthcare facility. Here's what she said:
"What I love most about rural health is the connection. In a small community, your patients are more than names on a chart- they’re neighbors, friends and family. Providing care here through all walks of life makes me appreciate why I became a nurse- to care, to serve and to make someone’s day a little better is what truly matters the most!"

💚 Thank you, Cari, for your years of service to our community. We appreciate you!

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month 💜

Pancreatic cancer is often called the "silent disease" because symptoms may not appear until the cancer is advanced. Early detection saves lives, so knowing the warning signs matters.

Watch for these symptoms:
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• Persistent abdominal or back pain
• Unexplained weight loss
• Loss of appetite or feeling full quickly
• New-onset diabetes or changes in blood sugar
• Digestive issues or changes in stool
• Persistent fatigue

Many of these symptoms can have other causes, but if you're experiencing several of them—especially together—talk to your healthcare provider. Risk factors include: family history, smoking, chronic pancreatitis, obesity, and age over 60.

If you have concerns about your pancreatic health, our team is here to help. Early conversations can make all the difference.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness about lung cancer and the importance of taking care of your lung health.

Did you know?
✔️ Lung cancer screening finds over half of lung cancer at an early stage when it is more curable, compared to only about 25% without screening.
✔️ Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.
✔️ Smoking poses the greatest risk. It causes about 90% of lung cancer cases. But there are other risks such as exposure to radon and air pollution.
✔️ Screening high-risk individuals has the potential to dramatically improve lung cancer survival rates.
✔️Lung cancer screenings are non-invasive and only take a few minutes.

Thinking that it's time to schedule your lung cancer screening? No need to wait! Call the clinic to make an appointment and see if you are eligible:
