Bowenwork Integrative Health

Bowenwork Integrative Health Bowenwork®, McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release and Breast Health offer effective tools to care for you! Daily I watch people respond to this unique therapy. Annie

As a Registered Nurse for 28 years, I have experienced a paradigm shift in the way I think about pain, pain relief, injury and recovery after witnessing the effects of Bowenwork. Most often clients experience deep relaxation during the session, with positive changes in their bodies and even their emotions. Whether new injury, chronic pain, or a stalled recovery, Bowenwork is capable of kick starting the healing mechanisms of the body and each body responds as it is able. We recognize that our client is much more than the pain they are trying to address. We prioritize care for the whole person in sessions that are unhurried and client specific. In private practice I use myofascial length testing to identify the areas of greatest myofascial tension. By addressing these primary areas of tension we often see a faster response to therapy, as we are addressing the whole body and not isolating the treatment to one part. If you are tired of pain and low energy, don't give up. Bowenwork has surprised many people! As a matter of fact, many Bowenwork practitioners went in to this work because of the amazing results they achieved in their pursuit of wellness. Perhaps you will have your own story to tell of how Bowenwork changed your life! Feel free to contact me with questions regarding Bowen and your condition at info@bowenworkintegrativehealth.com. Wishing you the best!

In case you haven't heard the news....
Breast Health is now available to support you in taking care of yourself.
If you have experienced breast augmentation or reduction, lumpectomy or breast cancer with mastectomy you will find help with your recovery here. I have seen the results of increased range of motion and decreased pain using McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release, Bowenwork and addressing lymph flow. I notice that some women don't really appreciate the limitation in their movement until they are asked for specific movements. They can feel the difference however, when their range of motion is improved!!!
I also enjoy empowering women to nurture themselves, giving them tools to care well for their bodies. If they need to see the doctor, they are very clear on what their breast normally feel like throughout their cycle or over time.
If I can be of service to you or you have some questions, don't hesitate to call. Free 15 minute phone consultation!

Knee replacement be is reported to be one of the most successful orthopaedic procedures that alleviates pain and restores function in patients with degenerative knee joint diseases. Along with the relief of having mobility back, comes the concerns regarding scar tissue and it's effect on the knee joint after this surgery. An NIH/Pub Med article says "Arthrofibrosis, defined as abnormal scarring of the joint in which the formation of dense fibrous tissue and tissue metaplasia ( abnormal change in the nature of the tissue) prevents normal range of motion, represents a significant clinical challenge and drastically reduces quality of life of those affected individuals."

Gandhi R. et al. Predictive risk factors for stiff knees in total knee arthroplasty. J arthroplasty 21, 46–52 (2006). [PubMed] [Google Scholar] [Ref list]

But there is great news! Let me tell you about a recent client.
I had the pleasure of working with a 92 year old woman who had just such scars from a surgery 2 years ago. On assessment, I found the scar tethered at the far end. There was also a 1" scar a couple of inches down the leg. I used McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR) on these areas. She and I could see and feel the difference in the
tissue straight away. We then addressed the area of greatest tension in her hip flexors. (One area not functioning well will create other abnormal tension patterns in the neighborhood). Next, it was time to get up and walk and assess the outcome.
The look of acknowledgement and surprise said it all. She shared that she hadn't felt such ease in walking in a long time. She felt "balanced" and "confident". She noted she could now keep her eyes looking out into the world, not down at her feet. Now that's great news for a lady that still gardens!
Perhaps this has you wondering about your own scars. MSTR can create significant changes. Before you accept decreased mobility, pain and change in you quality of life, try MSTR.

Covid-19 has changed how we live and how we work. Let me share with you our latest guidelines for Licensed Massage Therapist in Washington state.

Healthcare Settings Still Require Masking Starting 3/12/22, most persons can go unmasked, however, all who enter healthcare settings, to include this office, must still remain masked. Social distancing and masking are still required of all healthcare settings in Washington state, which includes the practices of all massage therapists and massage clinics. I use this technique frequently with my clients because of the results it brings. Scars are often seen as reflections of an "old story" from the past, not influencing the body today. Perhaps there was never a visible scar but a traumatic accident. Maybe it was a welcomed surgery or an emergency surgery the results of which may have been positive or negative to the client. Whatever the storyline is, I generally like to address scar tissue first as it tends to give follow-up body work better outcomes.
Here is Alistair McLoughlin discussing his technique.....

In this video we explore how scarring affects the psychology and emotional state of a person. Unfortunately, this is an often neglected result of scars from ...

Someone asked me the other day why I am having my clients wear 2 masks. My answer is simply this, decreasing our risk of being exposed to Covid-19 during your session is my highest priority.

As I visited The CDC web page, I learned that 2 surgical masks are not providing increased protection because of their fit. Read on to learn what easy steps can significantly reduce our risk

Improve the Fit and Filtration of Your Mask to Reduce the Spread of COVID-19

How to Improve fit of medical procedure mask

Knotting and Tucking: This technique can be used to improve the fit of a medical procedure mask. Knot the ear loops of the mask where they join the edge of the mask, then fold and tuck the unneeded material under the edges. (For instructions, see the following https://youtu.be/UANi8Cc71A0external icon)

How to Improve Filtration
Another important step to increase the protection offered by your mask is to improve filtration. Masks capture respiratory droplets containing the virus when the wearer breathes out, blocking them from reaching the outside air and protecting others. They also serve as a barrier to protect the wearer by capturing respiratory droplets containing the virus breathed out by others, so that the wearer does not breathe them in. A mask with improved filtration will stop more respiratory droplets containing the virus from getting inside your mask if others are sick or escaping from your mask if you are sick.

Layering
Adding more layers of material to a mask (layering) is a good way to reduce the number of respiratory droplets containing the virus that come through the mask. One layering strategy is to use a cloth mask that has multiple layers of fabric. Another strategy is to wear two masks.

Improve Mask Fit and Filtration by Wearing Two Masks
Wearing a second mask on top of a first mask can

• Improve fit by pressing the inner mask closer to the face, thereby reducing the amount of air that leaks around the edges of the masks.
• Improve filtration by adding more layers of material to reduce the number of respiratory droplets containing the virus that come through the masks.
One way to do this is to wear a medical procedure mask underneath a cloth mask. A recent study conducted in a laboratory found that this combination provided much better protection to the wearer and to others as compared with a cloth mask by itself or a medical procedure mask by itself.

However, there are some mask combinations that should not be used
• Do not combine two medical procedure masks. Medical procedure masks are not designed to fit tightly and wearing a second medical procedure mask on top of the first medical procedure mask does not help to improve the fit.
• Do not combine a KN95 mask with any other masks. You should only use one KN95 mask at a time, and you should not use any type of second mask on top of or underneath a KN95 mask.

In this video, Emily Sickbert-Bennett, PhD, director of Infection Prevention at UNC Hospitals, shows the simple steps to get a tighter fit from your earloop ...

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release to address breast scar tissue (reduction, augmentation, mastectomies, open-heart and thoracic surgeries)

PS: I found this immensely helpful treating a gentleman who had open heart surgery years ago. The scar was no longer tethered to his chest, the surrounding tissue softened dramatically and interestingly he felt more energy for living!
