Thinking of our employees and their family who are bravely facing medical challenges ahead💪❤️ There are a couple benefits coming up this month to help support them!

So we have a family in need. Elaina Hvezda, a 12-year-old 6th-grader at Minnewaska, has Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We are going to do our best to help her and her family as much as we can.

To help them out, we are donating all proceeds from March 13th animal races. So let's pack Captains Bar & Grill and show them we care!

We will also be holding a benefit auction on May 31st at the Starbuck Community Center. We are still in the planning stage of the benefit, so we don't have many details yet. If you'd like to help out or donate items, please reach out.

Fire Incident at Minnewaska Apartments

This morning at approximately 8:00 a.m., Minnewaska Community Health Services staff were notified by local authorities of a fire that occurred at Minnewaska Apartments, 600 Wallon St, Starbuck. The fire was contained in a single apartment. The individual residing in that unit was transported to the hospital for medical attention. At this time, all other apartments have been inspected and cleared by the fire marshal, and tenants have been authorized to return to their homes.

All tenants were able to evacuate safely and were temporarily sheltered at Fron Lutheran Church. We extend our sincere gratitude to the church and its volunteers for their immediate support and hospitality.

Minnewaska Community Health Services is thankful for the swift and coordinated response from the MN State Patrol, Starbuck Police and Fire Departments, Pope County Sheriffs office and the Glacial Ridge Ambulance. Their quick actions ensured the safety of our tenants and minimized further impact.

This was an unfortunate and isolated incident. As additional information becomes available from authorities, we will provide further updates.

Our Story

Minnewaska Community Health Services has a rich history of providing high-quality care. On July 23, 1961, Governor Elmer E. Anderson dedicated the first home, Minnewaska Lutheran Home, which has evolved over the years to become what Minnewaska Community Health Services is today. It was built as a “home for the aged,” with the intention of providing happiness and comfort in a Christian environment to serve our residents.

The original home provided space for 38 residents. It was expanded in 1970, 1972, 1974, 1989, and 2005 to become the facility it is today. Minnewaska Therapy was added a few years after the Home’s inception date to provide additional services to the community, offering inpatient and outpatient services. In 1989, Holly Ridge Manor was built, adding 20 assisted living units to the MCHS inventory. It has provided secure community living to those who need peace-of-mind, with residents conveniently located close to downtown.

Recent expansions include an addition to Holly Ridge Manor and a new assisted living and memory care facility in Hoffman, Minnesota. Both of these facilities opened in 2018.

MCHS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives from our partner congregations and the community at large. The board meets regularly to discuss business needs and to help secure a healthy future for MCHS.
