🐾 Meet the Dogs of Monarch 🐾

If you walk through the doors at Monarch Counseling & Wellness, you will likely be greeted by one of our four-legged team members: Milo, River, or Bitsy. Each of these dogs has a different role, different training, and different legal distinctions — and we believe it’s important to educate our community about those differences.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

🐶 Milo – Therapy Dog (In Training)
Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort and emotional support to multiple people in clinical or community settings. Milo is being trained to work alongside a clinician in sessions when clinically appropriate and with client consent. Therapy dogs help reduce anxiety, increase feelings of safety, and support connection in the therapeutic process.

🐕 River – Service Dog
Service dogs are individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability and are legally protected under the ADA. River is a working dog who assists her handler with disability-related tasks. When he is on duty, he is focused and working — and we ask that he not be distracted.

🐾 Bitsy – Emotional Support Dog
Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) provide comfort through their presence. They are not required to perform trained tasks and do not have the same public access rights as service dogs. Bitsy brings a calm, grounding presence to our space and offers companionship and soothing energy.

At Monarch, we are intentional about how and when dogs are involved in sessions. Client comfort, consent, allergies, and preferences are always prioritized.

We love the warmth and connection our dogs bring to the office — and we also believe in educating our community about the important distinctions between therapy dogs, service dogs, and emotional support animals.

We can’t wait for you to meet them. 💛

🌿 Eating Disorders Awareness Week | February 23–March 1, 2026 🌿
The Myths We Carry

At Monarch Counseling & Wellness, we believe recovery begins with truth, compassion, and honoring the full, diverse realities of those impacted by eating disorders.

Our partner organization, The Renfrew Center, is joining organizations nationwide to recognize Eating Disorders Awareness Week with this year’s powerful theme:

✨ The Myths We Carry ✨

Eating disorders are too often misunderstood — who they affect, what they look like, and why they happen. This week invites us to look deeper at the pressures of diet culture, social media, perfectionism, and stigma that keep so many struggling in silence.

Recovery begins when we stop trying to fit a mold and start honoring each individual’s lived experience.

🔹 Feb 25 | 12:00–12:45 PM – Adult Connections (25+)

Today, we’re honored to share a message from Robert Chilton, LCSW—a veteran himself—about why serving fellow veterans through mental health care matters so deeply to him.

From lived experience to lived compassion, this work is personal. Veterans deserve providers who understand their stories, their challenges, and their strength. We’re proud to have clinicians who don’t just treat—they get it. 🇺🇸

🐾 Ever Wonder What It Takes to Become a Therapy Dog? Meet Milo! 🐾

Milo has officially begun his journey toward becoming a Certified Therapy Dog! 💙

His training process is intentional, structured, and thorough to ensure he can provide safe, supportive, and comforting interactions for our community. Milo is currently working through basic obedience training, focusing on essential skills like focus, impulse control, and reliable responses to commands in a variety of environments.

Once he masters these foundational skills, Milo will work toward passing the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test. This nationally recognized certification evaluates temperament, behavior, and the ability to remain calm, friendly, and well-mannered in public settings.

After earning his CGC, Milo will move into specialized therapy dog training, where he will learn skills specific to supporting individuals in therapeutic environments. This includes advanced socialization, emotional attunement, and practicing safe and appropriate interactions with a wide range of people and settings.

The final step in Milo’s journey will be completing the therapy dog certification process, which involves supervised evaluations and ensuring he meets all standards required to serve in counseling and wellness settings.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about romantic love.
Sometimes, it’s about coming home to yourself.

As we head into another Valentine’s season, we’re resharing a blog written last year that still feels just as powerful today—a reminder to rebrand Valentine’s Day as a love letter to YOU.

✨ Thank you to our own Stevi Carter for sharing her thoughtful perspective on self-compassion, reflection, and redefining what love can look like.

If the thought of Valentine’s Day makes you roll your eyes or feel sad, I totally get it. It’s a day in which romantic love is celebrated, presents are exchanged, and dinner reservations are made. It can so easily make a single person feel like the glaring exception to the sea of couples they se...

🧠🏆 What Is Mental Performance Consulting—and Why Does It Matter for Athletes?

Mental Performance Consulting helps athletes develop the mental skills needed to perform at their best—both in competition and in life. Skills like focus, confidence, emotional regulation, goal-setting, and bouncing back after mistakes are just as important as physical training.

Our partner, Mindful Performance Consulting, is offering an Introduction to Mental Performance workshop designed for parents, coaches, and administrators who want to better support young athletes.

⏰ 6:30–7:30 p.m.
📍 Bodydesign Strength & Wellness Center (location provided at registration)

Whether you’re supporting an athlete who struggles with performance anxiety, confidence dips, or pressure—or simply want to help them build resilience and mental toughness—this is a great place to start.
