In recognition of , we invite you to get to know our staff at OCH Cardiology with University Heart. We're starting with Dr. Bryan Barksdale, who is seeing patients at our hospital today.

Years of practice: 40 years

Area of interest: preventive cardiology care

Why you chose cardiology: Originally, I thought I wanted to do general surgery, but with cardiology, I like that you can do procedures and clinical work. I enjoy seeing results, as long as they [patients] follow the guidelines and are compliant.

Favorite heart healthy food: any fish, especially tuna

Advice you always give to patients: Stop smoking, diet and regular exercise…Exercise is the key to longevity whether or not you have cardiovascular disease. When I ask patients if they exercise, the most common response I get is, “I used to.” We can’t change genetics, but every other risk factor, like hypertension, we can work on.

Spare time: Exercise and read, I really like to read anything, especially nonfiction.

5,372 - that's how many mammograms our radiology technologists, (from left) Brenda Stone and Stephanie Dennis, performed just last year. In addition, they also conduct DEXA (bone density) scans and stereotactic breast biopsies all right here at our Center. With 53 years combined experience in mammography and breast imaging, we are so thankful for all they do to provide the highest level of care to our patients. Happy , Brenda and Stephanie! We appreciate you!
