My next workshop is on March 22 at the Rivet where we will be playing with wax! Yes, this is a totally new workshop for me, so I’m keeping it small this time. Only 6 total spots available. I started playing with making was seals a couple of months ago and became obsessed. They are so fun to make and it’s easy to be successful.

For those of you who know that I focus on wellness in my classes, you may wonder how this fits in. Is it art? Maybe, maybe not. But it doesn’t matter! It’s creating with your hands which is good for our mental health. Plus there is some patience needed that comes with the satisfaction of seeing our creations come to life. I find it very therapeutic! Plus, you can stick the seals on a hand-written letter and share the joy!

Hope to see you there! Registration is at the Rivet website. Link in bio.

There's something deeply captivating about art that fosters peace, introspection, and wonder. Ansel Adams' masterful photographs of Yosemite are a testament to this power. The study of neuroaesthetics is now uncovering what artists have long understood: art has a profound impact on our brain. As research confirms the importance of art for our well-being, we're reminded that it's the fifth pillar of our health. Prioritize experiencing and creating art - it's essential for our overall well-being.

What is art journaling? It’s whatever you want it to be! Think stream of consciousness meets collage meets painting. The only limitation is your own creativity. Today in our art journaling class, we chose a quote and an image that we were intuitively drawn to and then created unique artwork filled with color, pattern, and joy. I love the creations everyone made!

I had the opportunity to talk about many of the joys in my life in this conversation with Michele Kawamoto Perry. What a beautiful experience to be able to share my leadership journey in engineering education and art. Thank you for this opportunity, Michele! ❤️

Creativity is not a “soft skill.” It’s a leadership skill.

In this episode of Expressions of Leadership, I sit down with Sarah Zappe, Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning and Director of the Leonhard Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Education at Penn State, to explore what it means to lead at the intersection of engineering, innovation, and the arts.

🔷 Why creativity belongs in engineering education
🔷 How to navigate resistance when introducing new ideas
🔷 Supporting faculty in building communication and professional skills
🔷 Using art to spark ethical and identity-based conversations in STEM
🔷 Empowering others by giving them tools and trusting them to create

We also talk about her arts-based wellness company, Kaleidoscope PA, and how mindfulness and artistic expression can transform not just individuals but the community.

If you lead in higher education, STEM, or any high-performance environment, this conversation will expand how you think about innovation and impact.

If you’ve been feeling angry for a while for, you know, various reasons…this session is for YOU!!! We will be combining yoga with collage as a way to process our emotions. Both instructors (Kerri and Sarah) are trauma-informed practitioners and will be weaving ideas of healing and nervous system regulation in the session. First, we will be doing some gentle yoga to relax our bodies and then we will create a collage as a way to process what we feel. Did you know creating art can be an act of resistance? And this will be a happy, joy filled class as we come together in community. This session is FREE but we ask you to register for planning purposes. Any donated funds collected will go to Centre Safe. Link to register in bio.

There are a whole bunch of workshops coming up! Link to all of these in bio. First up is the last Art for Calm in our Nervous System Reset class at the Rivet where we will focus on art journaling. Then on March 1, we’ll have a fun and light hearted session where we Paint our Pets with watercolor, learning how to layer our paint. Then, on March 2, there is a free donation-based class with Boalsburg Yoga. This class is part yoga and part Art for Resistance. All proceeds for that class will go Centre Safe. Hope to see you at one or more of these events!

The way to an artist’s heart is through art supplies. Although, I’d never turn down chocolate and flowers.
