The TRI continues today at 10:30 am with our Keynote!
Recreation Therapy as Resistance: Designing Transformative Leisure Practices

Recreation Therapy is more than programs—it is resistance. This session explores how leisure can disrupt hustle culture, reclaim community, and transform well-being. Grounded in JJRT’s values of connection, creativity, and curiosity, participants will discover innovative therapeutic approaches, evidence-based outcomes, and advocacy strategies. Expect reflection, interaction, and inspiration to reimagine your practice. Leave with practical tools and a renewed vision of Recreation Therapy as a radical, restorative force.
Presenter: Jessie Jones, CTRS

Jessie Jones is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and founder of JJRT, a bold movement rooted in leisure as resistance, radical care, and creative autonomy. With a background as a chef, artist, and musician, Jessie weaves connection, creativity, and curiosity into innovative therapeutic programs that challenge grind culture and reimagine leisure as essential to human well-being. She leads through immersive workshops, community initiatives, and advocacy, inspiring practitioners to embrace recreation therapy as both a healing practice and a revolutionary act.

Disability Inclusion is Everyone’s Role: Engaging Your Entire Team
January 30, 2026
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Inclusion doesn’t succeed through one specialist alone—it requires commitment from every staff member. This session explores how therapeutic recreation professionals can move beyond a “doing it all” model toward organizational commitment through a teaching and mentoring approach that empowers their teams. Together we’ll uncover strategies to address common barriers, set clear expectations, and build confidence among staff without specialized training. When all staff understand their role in disability inclusion, programs gain the capacity to ensure every participant feels welcomed and supported.
