Chemical abortions (via the abortion pill) are increasing rapidly in the United States. Among the states that have released chemical abortion data for 2019, chemical abortions jumped almost 12 percent from 2018. That trend is unlikely to slow, with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspending an important element of its safety regulations on the abortion pill mifepristone to permit its distribution through the mail. Despite the dangers that mifepristone can pose to women, the drug is now widely available with almost no medical oversight.

All I could do was sob. She handed me a tissue and said, “Poor baby.” That was the extent of my counseling. She led me back to pay for the abortion.

Our Story

The Pregnancy Care Center of NY began as a grassroots outreach to the women of Staten Island, following the Supreme Court decision of Roe v. Wade. Leaders in the community were finding that even while abortion was legal, the women facing that choice were still experiencing a lot of hurt, distress, and isolation, both before and after their decisions. The PCC of NY began as a service to these women, providing love and support in what is often a lonely, uncertain place.

Today, the PCC of NY has expanded to serve not only women, but men and families as well. Pregnancy can be scary, and unplanned pregnancy even more so. We want to be there for anyone who is facing a difficult pregnancy, regardless of whether their concern is the unplanned nature of a pregnancy, financial strain, lack of support, educational uncertainty, or any other difficulties. We can help individuals be aware of their options so they can make informed decisions going forward and experience minimal anxiety surrounding what are often scary times.

We are first and foremost an outreach of love and concern, from which the rest of our services flow. Our focus is holistic, taking into account the various needs of those who come to us. Each person has spiritual, physical, emotional, mental, and interpersonal needs; our hope is to help meet those needs so that all those who come here can grow and thrive.
