Beat the “Winter Blues” the “Wise” way with Vitamin D! 🦉☀️
When the clouds roll in over Statesboro and the days get shorter, it’s easy for our little owlets (and us!) to feel a bit less bright. Did you know Vitamin D plays a huge role in mood, bone health, and even our immune system? It’s often called the “sunshine vitamin” for good reason! 🌤️
Since winter sun exposure is limited, it’s “wise” to ensure your family is getting enough through other sources.
Wise Owl Ways to Get Vitamin D:
Fortified Foods: Look for milk, cereal, and orange juice labeled “fortified with Vitamin D.”
Fatty Fish: Salmon, tuna, and mackerel are natural sources (and delicious!).
Supplements: Talk to us about whether a Vitamin D supplement is right for your child.
How do you keep your family’s spirits bright in the winter? Share your tips below! 👇 And as always, give us a hoot if you have questions about your child’s nutrition! 📞

Check in on your nest, Statesboro! 🦉❤️✨
January isn’t just about new goals; it’s also Mental Wellness Month! After the holiday hustle and bustle, sometimes the winter gray can feel a bit heavy, even for our little owlets. It’s a “wise” time to gently check in on your child’s emotional health.
Emotional well-being is just as important as physical health! Here are a few “wise” ways to keep those conversations flying:
Ask Beyond “How was your day?”: Try “What made you smile today?” or “What was one challenging thing that happened?”
Validate Feelings: Let them know it’s okay to feel sad, frustrated, or worried. (“It sounds like you had a tough day, and that’s okay.”)
Keep Routines: Consistent sleep, healthy meals, and outdoor play can significantly impact mood.
If you’ve noticed changes in your child’s mood, behavior, or sleep, or if you just want to chat about their emotional well-being, our nest is here to support your family. Give us a hoot to schedule a wellness visit. 📞

The Hoot on Hydration: Don’t let the winter chill fool you! 🦉❄️🥤
When the temperature drops in Statesboro, we often forget about our water bottles—but our little owlets need hydration just as much in the winter as they do in the summer!
Between the dry indoor heat and active play in the crisp air, kids can get dehydrated before they even feel thirsty. Keeping them hydrated helps with energy, focus at school, and even keeping those winter sniffles at bay. 🤒✨
Wise Owl Tips for Winter Hydration: 💧 Fun Bottles: Let them pick out a special “winter wingman” water bottle to carry. 🍊 Infuse It: Add a slice of orange or a few berries for a pop of flavor. 🥣 Hydrating Foods: Serve warm soups and watery fruits like melons or pears.
How do you encourage your kids to keep drinking water when it’s cold outside? Share your “wise” tricks with our Statesboro community below! 👇🦉

Whooo’s ready for some winter fun? 🦉🎿❄️
Whether your little owlets are hitting the ice for hockey, heading to the hills for sledding, or trying out skis for the first time, there is one piece of gear they can’t leave the nest without: a helmet! 🛡️
January is National Winter Sports TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) Awareness Month. A properly fitted helmet is the wisest way to protect developing brains from falls and bumps.
The Wise Fit Checklist: ✅ Snug: It shouldn’t rock back and forth. ✅ Level: It should sit low on the forehead (about two finger-widths above the eyebrows). ✅ Strapped: The chin strap should be tight enough that only one or two fingers fit under it.
Does your child’s helmet still fit from last year? Check it today! If you have any “wise” safety questions, we are always here to help. 📞🦉

Starting solids? Here’s what you need to know about allergens. 🍎🥜🦉
Introducing new foods is an exciting milestone, but it often comes with a side of “What if?” Current research suggests that for most babies, introducing allergens early (around 4–6 months) can actually help prevent allergies later!
So, whooo are the main culprits? The “Big 9” account for about 90% of all food allergies. Keep this list handy as you start your food journey:
🥛 Milk
🥚 Eggs
🥜 Peanuts
🌳 Tree Nuts (like walnuts or almonds)
🌾 Wheat
🌱 Soy
🐟 Fish
🦐 Shellfish
🥯 Sesame
Always introduce these high-risk foods one at a time, during the day (not at bedtime!), so you can monitor your little one for a few hours. This makes it much easier to identify a reaction if one occurs.
Save this post for your next trip to the grocery store! 🛒✨ If you have questions about your child’s specific risk factors, give us a hoot to chat! 📞

Whooo’s ready for a fresh start? 🦉📚
Transitioning from holiday sleep schedules back to early morning school bells can be tough! Help your little owlets fly right back into the routine with these 3 tips:
Early to Bed: Start shifting bedtime 15 minutes earlier each night this week.
Check the Gear: Make sure backpacks aren’t too heavy—they should weigh no more than 10-15% of your child’s body weight!
Brain Fuel: Fuel those morning flights with a protein-rich breakfast. 🍳
