A big thank you to Sue and Brad for coming to Southern Manor yesterday and spending time with our residents! They helped everyone create beautiful heart-shaped door decorations just in time for Valentine’s Day. Each heart was so creative, unique, and full of personality—just like the residents who made them.

It was such a fun and meaningful activity, and our halls are now filled with love and color. We truly appreciate you sharing your time and kindness with us! ❤️

“This is the side of Senior Living that frequently goes unnoticed.

You may never see the administrator driving all over the state picking up staff who are unable to drive to work in the storm, but they are there...
You may never see the DON sleeping under their desk because leaving wasn't an option, but they are there...
You might never see staff outside in the dark, salting sidewalks to ensure the safety of residents and coworkers before most of the world wakes up, but they are there...
You may not witness employees working their shift while their kids quietly assist with activities, as care doesn't stop when life gets complicated; or the staff who cover a double because others can't make it in for their shift, but they are there...
You will probably never see the leadership team that is working remotely with every facility in their region to ensure they have gas, salt, food, generators, blankets, activity items, staffing, and so much more...but I can promise you they are there!

What typically does make the news are the incidents that went wrong.

However, what often remains unseen are the moments when individuals choose commitment over comfort, presence over convenience, and people over everything else.

This photo isn't about heroics; it's about responsibility. It's about love for our residents. It's about the quiet sacrifices made every day in senior living—especially when no one is watching.

If you work in senior living, you understand: this work is heavy, exhausting, and emotional. Yet it is carried out by people who show up anyway.”

💜 Activity Professionals Week Spotlight 💜

This week we are celebrating Activity Professionals Week, and we could not let it pass without shining a very bright light on Barbara, our incredible Lifestyle Director here at Southern Manor Senior Living.

Barbara is the definition of selfless. She is the first to jump in, the last to leave, and the one who always says “I’ve got it” — no matter what “it” is. From creating innovative, meaningful activities that truly engage our residents, to making sure staff, families, and visitors feel welcomed, included, and genuinely loved every single day — Barbara does it all.

She is constantly honing her craft, always searching for new and creative ways to connect with and enrich the lives of our residents. And if that weren’t enough, she somehow also manages to be our unofficial in-house maintenance, IT department, and fixer of everything — from a stubborn remote control to a lonesome heart. ❤️

The past five years have absolutely flown by — just like we talked about this week — because time really does fly when you’re having fun and doing what you love. And Barbara, you do what you love so beautifully.

Earlier this week we celebrated our January birthday residents, and what a joyful time it was! We laughed, played our birthday game, and had so much fun that we ended with a tie between two teams—so of course we had to get a picture of each team! 😉

A huge thank you to the local Statesboro Dairy Queen for donating the most delicious ice cream cake, as always. We are so grateful for your kindness and generosity—it truly made the celebration extra special.

We’re so thankful for moments like these filled with smiles, laughter, and togetherness. 💙

We want to say a huge thank you to Bible Baptist Church for coming out this evening and blessing our residents in such a special way. They brought thoughtful goodie bags filled with snacks, sang beautiful hymns, and shared a meaningful devotion.

What meant the most was the time they spent with our residents—sitting, chatting, and truly connecting. It was such a blessing to see the smiles, hear the singing, and feel the love in the room. Thank you for sharing your time and hearts with us tonight. 🙏✨

We had the best time this afternoon celebrating Dolly Parton’s birthday! 🎶💗

A huge thank-you to Kelly Wingate (aka “Dolly Pardon” 🤠) with Affinity Hospice for coming out and making the day so special. From karaoke that had everyone singing their hearts out to the most delicious cupcakes, it was such a treat! 🧁

There was lots of pink, plenty of cowgirl flair, and lots of laughter. Days like this are what make memories, and our residents had an absolute blast celebrating the one and only Dolly! 💕✨

We had such a wonderful evening last night with a few of our residents at A Night at the Opera at First Baptist Church in Statesboro. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and were treated to some truly beautiful opera music—it was such a special experience.

While only a few residents decided to brave the cold and join us, those who went had a great time. Everything from the atmosphere to the music was just lovely, and it made for a really memorable evening. We’re so thankful for opportunities like this to enjoy something so beautiful together. 🎶✨

We had a fun-filled afternoon celebrating Winter Wonderland with our residents! ❄️☕
Everyone enjoyed a lineup of Minute to Win It–style winter games, along with hot chocolate, coffee, and powdered donuts to keep us cozy.

We also snapped some fun photos that make it look like our residents are inside a snow globe — showing off their winter spirit! ❄️

It was the perfect way to wrap up a cold week and get everyone excited as we prepare for the snow that might be heading our way this weekend (fingers crossed 😉). Laughter, smiles, and a whole lot of winter cheer filled the room, and we loved every minute of it!

A big thank you to Madison Kate Gaston from Georgia Hospice Care for spending the afternoon with us and bringing so much fun to our day! She led a lively game of Butterbean Auction, and the residents had an absolute blast bidding, laughing, and winning some really great prizes.

The residents have officially given Madison a new nickname — “Miss Butterbean” 💚😂

Thank you, Madison, for your kindness, time, and for creating such joyful moments for our residents. We truly appreciate you!
