New research suggests diet matters even after a stage III colon cancer diagnosis.

Patients who consumed anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, coffee, and tea, and exercised regularly, had a significantly lower risk of death than those eating more pro-inflammatory foods like red meat, sugary drinks, and refined grains.

New research underscores that MASLD is much more than a liver condition.

In a nationwide study of over 1 million adults, patients with MASLD had a 60% higher risk of chronic diarrhea, a 62% higher risk of IBS, and a significantly increased risk of GI cancers.

Experts say this highlights the need for greater awareness of the gut–liver connection and its impact on overall digestive health.

🧠 “If we can control MASLD, we may be able to control functional diarrhea, IBS, or constipation,” said lead author Dr. Rishi Chowdhary.

Iredell Health System, in collaboration with Piedmont HealthCare, is now offering Aquablation® therapy at Iredell Memorial Hospital to treat men suffering from an enlarged prostate. The first cases using the new therapy were completed today! 👏

“BPH is a widespread condition that severely compromises quality of life for countless men over age 50. With Aquablation therapy, men can reclaim their lifestyles and find relief from symptoms while preserving sexual function and continence — outcomes that have proven elusive with many traditional treatment modalities,” said Dr. Tao Cui, a urologist at PHC Piedmont Urology. He and Dr. Kush Patel of PHC Urology & Urological Surgery and Dr. Dominick Carbone, Jr. of Iredell Urology are currently the three urologists in the area who will use the new robotic system.

Patel adds, “We are excited to expand options for our patients with a highly precise, robotic-guided treatment. This technology allows us to deliver highly targeted therapy with minimal downtime, and we remain committed to offering the most advanced, least invasive treatment options for BPH in our community.”

“The precision of the robotically controlled removal of prostate tissue could potentially reduce some of the most distressing side effects of outlet reduction surgery,” shared Carbone. “As part of the Iredell Physician Network I am pleased to offer this cutting-edge technology to our Iredell community.”

Thank you, Statesville! Statesville Feeds the Need food drive wrapped up with an incredible 12,314 pounds of donated food. We set a goal of 15,000 pounds, and while we didn’t hit the number, we still feel like we won in every way that matters.

PHC offices, local businesses, and community members came together with so much heart. The final week especially was unbelievable. Every can, box, and bag helped stock the shelves of our local food banks and will make a real difference for families right here at home this holiday season.

We’re proud of this community and grateful for everyone who showed up to support the cause. Thank you for helping feed the need!
