Your baby’s head is beautifully designed for birth 🤍
Newborns are born with four main skull plates (often called “plates,” not platelets) that are not fused together yet. These plates are connected by soft spaces called fontanelles.
During labor, these plates can gently overlap and shift—a process called molding—which helps baby move through the pelvis more easily. After birth, they slowly move back into place.
Those soft spots aren’t a flaw… they’re a feature!
They allow for:
• Easier passage through the birth canal
• Rapid brain growth in the first year of life
• Natural flexibility and protection during birth
Was your baby’s head radically different right after birth? How long did it take for their skull to take a more normal shape?
