Please help us welcome Dr. Pfeiffer, SOSI’s newest orthopaedic physician now seeing patients in Granby and Kremmling (Grand County) at Middle Park Health facilities.

Board-certified in orthopaedic surgery with specialized training in sports medicine, Dr. Pfeiffer treats a wide range of conditions, including sports-related injuries, and total joint replacements of the hip and knee.

With years of experience in private practice, academic medicine, and leadership roles across the country, he brings a deep understanding of both cutting-edge care and real-world patient needs.

His passion for sports medicine has led him to serve as a team physician for the U.S. Olympic Alpine ski and snowboard teams, collegiate athletics, and high school programs.

When he’s not in the clinic, you’ll find Dr. Pfeiffer skiing, biking, flying, or fly fishing—living the active Colorado lifestyle he helps his patients return to.

Even the best in the game aren’t immune to knee scares... just ask Patrick Mahomes. One awkward play can change everything.

An ACL tear is an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament, one of the key ligaments that helps stabilize the knee. It often happens during sudden stops, pivots, or awkward landings common in sports. When the ACL is torn, the knee can feel unstable, swollen, and painful, especially with movement.

Being an official medical provider for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team means meeting athletes where they are, ready to respond the moment an injury happens on the mountain.

This time, we didn’t have to travel far. The Visa Big Air competition took place right here at Steamboat Resort, where our physicians were on the sidelines all weekend, responding to incidents and assessing injuries in real time.

Quick, accurate on-course diagnosis is critical. Our physicians and athletic trainers were able to relay vital information to medics before athletes even reached the base.

Caring for athletes starts—and ends—with us.

⛷️ Ski season is almost here, Steamboat! Are you ready to hit the slopes?

SOSI athletic trainers Blake Poledna and Tyler Shear are sharing a few at-home exercises to help you get ski-season strong — and cut your risk of injury before you even clip in. 💪

🏋️‍♀️ Strength: Build leg and core power with squats, lunges, and deadlifts.
⚡ Power: Add plyometrics like jump squats or lateral hops to boost reaction time.
🧘 Balance: Try single-leg moves or yoga poses to train your stabilizers.
🚴 Endurance: Keep your cardio up with running, cycling, or rowing.

Meet Dr. Jay Thompson, our fellowship-trained ortho surgeon who keeps hips and knees moving strong! 💪

From hip arthroscopy and sports medicine to joint replacements, Dr. Thompson brings top-tier expertise (and serious ski cred ⛷️) to SOSI’s Steamboat, Fraser, and Craig locations.

When he’s not in clinic, you might catch him traveling with the U.S. Paralympic Ski Team in places like St. Moritz or enjoying mountain life with his wife, Jaime — a Steamboat native and anesthesiologist.
