Learn more and start the process by clicking the link in my profile. Hi! My name is Steven, and I am suffering with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Basically my kidney's are kaput. This all came about because I got a very rare autoimmune condition called antGBM. My body mistook my kidneys as the enemy, and that was that. Well, the antiGMB is under control now, and so I'm looking for a kidney hero to share their spare with me. Won't you consider being a hero?? If you head over to the kidney donor page, my birthday is 01/26/1974

đź‘‹ Hi, I'm Steven. And I Need a Kidney!
For those of you who just see the ads, let me properly reintroduce myself. I'm Steven, an I.T. guy who grew up in Walden, Colorado, then I went to college and worked in Fort Collins, and now I call Steamboat Springs home.

My life is centered around the Colorado Rockies. When I'm not behind a keyboard for a outdoor company, my partner Tyler and I love exploring the backroads, camping, and spending valuable time with family and friends. We were starting to enjoy a little more travel before this hit.

A few years ago, I battled a rare disease. It was brutal, but I won that fight. I beat the disease!

The unfortunate consequence of that battle is that my kidneys were destroyed. Now I face a new fight, staying alive on dialysis until I can get a transplant. I am Type O, but please do not let that stop you. Your health is the only thing that matters.

I need one healthy person to step forward. Even if you are not a perfect match, your donation guarantees I get a compatible kidney through the Paired Kidney Exchange.

Please, help me get back to the small streams and backroads I love.

A lot of you ask why I keep running these urgent ads, even when a potential donor applies. The simple, difficult truth is that I have zero visibility into the donor evaluation process.

I don't know the status of any applicant. I don't know who makes it past the first screening, and I don't know who gets disqualified—all that information is strictly confidential between the applicant and the UCHealth Living Donor team.

My only job is to make sure the pipeline stays full. I have to run ads until one of you makes it all the way through the medical evaluation and becomes my hero.

If you are waiting for a sign, this is it. Please don't assume someone else will do it. I need you to apply today.

WANTED: A Living Hero!

SPECIFICATIONS:

Must be healthy enough to donate. (The screening is free and completely confidential.)

Blood Type: O (All blood types apply! The Paired Kidney Exchange solves the match.)

If you are a healthy person, you have the power to stop my suffering and give me the rest of my life back.

I get frustrated, because I know what’s stopping some of you. You’re thinking.. "I want to donate to Steven, but I’m not a direct match, so I’m done."

That is the mental hurdle keeping me on dialysis. You don't have to be a direct match!

Please, understand, it’s not an either/or situation. Deciding to donate to the paired kidney exchange might be the only reliable way to save my life. Your generous gift goes to someone who is a match for you, and in return, the system makes sure a perfectly matched kidney comes to me. But I have to have someone willing to be a donor in my name.

The goal is the same! To save my life. The only difference is the paperwork, and the doctors handle that.

Stop overthinking the logistics. The hurdle you think you have to clear doesn’t exist. All you have to decide is if you are ready to be a hero.

Click the link and let the transplant team sort out the rest. Just take the first step. Please.

I've come to believe that sharing my story is more than just asking for help. It's an act of faith—a way of putting a message out into the world and trusting that it will reach the person it's meant for.

Maybe you are that person.

Maybe you've been looking for a way to make a difference, to find a purpose, or to be a hero. My story could be the sign you've been waiting for, a beacon of hope that tells you where to focus your generosity.

All it takes is one person to save a life and set off a chain reaction of good. Your blood type doesn't even have to be a match for mine, thanks to the paired kidney exchange program.

This program is amazing, and it works like a chain of good deeds, as you can see in the illustration. If you're willing to donate but aren't a direct match for me, your kidney would instead go to someone else who is a match for you. In return, a donor from that chain—someone who is a match for me—would then donate their kidney to me. This whole process allows multiple people to receive a life-saving transplant, all starting with your generous act.

I've been on this journey for a long time, and I can tell you this: I am not giving up. Not on my health, not on my future, and not on the hope that a living kidney donor is out there. Every day is a fight, but it’s a fight I’m determined to win.

If you're new to my story or if you want to understand more about what I'm going through, I’ve included some resources below. These are powerful stories and a vital video that show the reality of living with kidney disease and the incredible hope that a transplant brings.

What a weekend! Tyler and I got to see a great concert in Dillon recently, but what most people don't see is the journey it takes to make a memory like this happen.

To get there, we had to drive to Avon, Colorado, get a hotel room the night before dialysis, then drive to Dillon after my treatment, and then back to Steamboat. Standing in line for the show was rough; my body was profoundly exhausted from dialysis and just trying to keep up.

Having an advocate like Tyler by my side makes all the difference. He's my constant support, ensuring I don't miss out on the joys of life, even when my energy is depleted. This photo captures a moment made possible by his unwavering support. It's a powerful reminder of why I keep fighting and why a living donor is so crucial.

It’s an exhausting battle, and a living kidney donor is the only path to a longer, healthier life for me. I'm Type O, but you can still help. Don't let blood type be a barrier! The Paired Kidney Exchange program means a willing donor can help me, even if we aren't a direct match. Your selfless donation sets off a chain reaction, often saving not just my life, but the lives of two or more people waiting for a transplant.

If you've ever considered making an incredible difference, please learn more here. Your gift could give me the energy to simply enjoy a concert, without the exhaustion, and contribute to a ripple effect of hope.

Hi! (again) everyone, Steven Geer (born 1.26.74) here. Many of you know me and my partner Tyler; we live right here in Steamboat Springs. Tyler's probably helped you get around as your local Transit Hero, and I'm the I.T. guy keeping things running at Big Agnes. Today, I want to talk about a very real, very human hurdle when it comes to living kidney donation.

I often hear, "But what if I'm not a direct match for you, Steven?" (I am type O) This is precisely where the power of Paired Kidney Exchange comes in. I completely get that it can feel strange to consider donating a kidney to a stranger. It's a mental hurdle, a profound emotional step to consider giving a part of yourself, especially when it's not directly going to the person you're trying to save!

However, here's the powerful truth about Paired Kidney Exchange: if you donate to a stranger through this program because you're incompatible with me, you are absolutely still saving MY life. Your incredible gift to someone you've never met creates a chain reaction, allowing me to receive a compatible kidney from another willing donor in the swap.

Your single act of generosity doesn't just save my life, it very often saves two or more lives in that chain! You start the process to multiple miracles!

Your willingness to donate a kidney means you can help me, regardless of blood type.

Learn more about this incredible, life-saving process, including how initial screening involves a free, comprehensive physical and can often happen locally to you:
https://www.uchealth.org/services/transplant-services/living-donation/

Your courage to overcome this mental hurdle could literally write my next chapter. Please share to help spread this crucial understanding!
