Wanted to share with everyone our new piece of equipment — the Tovertafel!

The Tovertafel has been proven to be effective on physical, cognitive, social, and sensory levels. By stimulating movement, interaction, and mental engagement, it promotes moments of happiness for seniors with dementia and helps improve their overall well-being.

We have wanted one of these for several years, and thanks to Carmen Barber and the foundations that provided the grant, we were finally able to purchase one.

This is going to be an amazing addition for our nursing home community, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our residents.

Today we received our Five-Star plaque — Five-Star overall and Five-Star Quality Measures — placing us among the top nursing homes in Texas. This is our fifth year earning this recognition during my six years as Administrator, and it is 100% because of the dedication, teamwork, and heart our staff brings to our residents and to each other. I couldn’t be prouder of this team.
If you are looking for a high-quality nursing home at an affordable price, we are here to help every step of the way.

New van, who dis? 🚐

We are excited to share that our new 2025 Ford van was delivered yesterday!

We want to give a huge thank you to Carmen Barber for her incredible work in securing the grants that made this possible—not only for the van, but also for new therapy equipment, our camera security system, and our WanderGuard system. Carmen, we truly can’t thank you enough for your dedication and hard work.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to the FMH Foundation, San Angelo Area Foundation, and the Moore Charitable Foundation for your continued support and belief in our nursing home. Your generosity helps us enhance safety, care, and quality of life for our residents.

We are so grateful for these partnerships and for everyone who helps make Sterling County Nursing Home a better place for those we serve.

Thank you all for being part of our success!

Did you know that Sterling County Nursing Home has been recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as one of the top nursing homes in the state for the past five years?

We have consistently maintained a 4- and 5-star overall rating, along with a 4- and 5-star Quality of Care rating. We are currently proud to be a 5-star facility with a 5-star Quality of Care rating, which is the highest rating achievable.

These ratings are based on state health inspections, staffing levels, and quality measures, and they reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire team.

This is something our community can be very proud of. If you or someone you know is looking for a great nursing home for a loved one, we would be honored to be considered.

Thank you for your continued support of Sterling County Nursing Home.

Sincerely,

Hello, this is Jason again. I would like to clarify a few things based on our post yesterday and some calls we have received.

At this time, we unfortunately do not have the capacity to allow members of the public to stay overnight. That said, if you are an elderly couple without power or heat and have no other place to go, we do have a limited number of beds available and will do our best to assist on a case-by-case basis.

For those who lose water service and would like to take a shower, we are happy to help. We kindly ask that you please bring your own towels and toiletry items.

We have designated our sunroom as a public area, equipped with chairs and tables, and have set up charging stations for phones and essential devices. We also have board games and coloring books available for children. And who knows—if you stay long enough, there’s a good chance you may get pulled into one of our residents’ highly competitive domino games.

We are all praying the electric grid holds strong, but if you find yourself in need, please know that we are here to support our community as best we can.

Thank you, and please stay safe.

Sincerely,
Jason Fowler

Subject: Community Support During Upcoming Severe Weather

Hello,

This is Jason Fowler, Administrator at the Sterling County Nursing Home.

With severe weather expected this weekend, we want to extend our support to members of our community who may be affected by power outages or other disruptions. If you are a county resident and experience a loss of electricity, need a warm place to spend the day, or need to charge your phone or medical devices, we have designated an area within our facility to assist you.

For those who rely on well water and may lose access due to power outages, we will also have shower rooms available.

In addition, warm meals will be available for $2 for anyone who would like one while visiting.

It is our privilege to serve this community, and this is one small way we can give back during challenging weather. Please feel free to share this information with anyone who may benefit.

Stay safe, and we look forward to being here for you.

Sincerely,
Jason Fowler
Administrator
Sterling County Nursing Home.
