Pain is pain, and we are allowed to feel it. In close relationships, we all deserve to be able to share our pain in conversations that are safe and validating. Minimizing a loved one’s pain because we perceive it to be less intense or less significant than one’s own is invalidating, damaging, and unnecessary.

There is conflict in every relationship. When handled well, conflict is a productive and respectful process of reconciling differences and making decisions together, rather than a painful, wounding, or repetitive experience. One way to help keep conflicts on track is to focus on sharing your own vulnerable emotions (e.g., “I feel taken for granted…”) rather than the other person’s words or actions (“you just expect me to take care of everything…”). The latter invites defensiveness and escalates tension, while the former invites empathy and creates space for connection.

Hannah Lindsay is not only a valued and respected member of our VA clinical team; she is also an outstanding human being and a trusted friend. Hannah consistently goes above and beyond for her clients, making sure their care is thoughtfully considered and collaborative. She continually works to extend and improve her skills, becoming ever more competent and talented. Her network of colleagues is deep, because everyone she meets is drawn to her kindness, warmth, and sincerity. We could not be happier to call Hannah a team member and friend! Hannah had limited openings for new clients, and sees individuals, kids, and families.

One of my favorite pieces of couples therapy advice: make it “you and me against the problem,” rather than letting the problem come between you. It’s a game changer!

Our Story

Lindsey Hoskins & Associates is a boutique therapeutic practice built on compassion, energy, and growth. Our skilled couple & family therapists are ideally prepared to work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and with the full spectrum of intra- and inter-personal challenges. We believe that a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is our most powerful tool for helping our clients achieve the change that they seek, and are proud that our current and past clients describe us as warm, empathic, knowledgeable, and creative. Trained specifically as systems therapists, all of our clinicians are eager to help clients with the full range of struggles they might face. We have assisted our clients in navigating problems such as roadblocks in old and new relationships, career changes, parenting struggles, loss due to death or divorce, depression/anxiety, increasing intimacy, fertility challenges, and moving past an affair. In addition, we have specialized training in pre-marital counseling, medical couple and family therapy (including genetic issues), and military couple and family therapy.
