01/01/2026
In full transparency I give our statistics for 2025. This was by far the hardest year as a midwife I have ever seen.
With 16 miscarriages (15 of them early), and 2 devastating losses at birth and soon after…2025 has taught me to sit quietly with families through the dark parts of midwifery. We see so much happiness and life, but that can often be balanced with sadness and loss.
I cannot thank my local hospital enough (York Wellspan) for the unending support they have shown my families when medicine is absolutely needed for saving lives and compassionately allowing them to end.
This year was proof that the hard work we have done to have a relationship with medical professionals can and does make our work possible and safer. I must also give thanks for my peer midwives who covered me numerous times in a pinch when life led me to handle big changes for my family. Without each other we cannot sustain this work. Words cannot express the love I have for my fellow York County/Lancaster County midwives. You have carried me this year. I’m so grateful for my calling, and so hopeful that 2026 will give me more life and less sadness, but I am always ready to sit with these families through all walks of life.
I have so much respect for the unpredictability of birth, and still trust the process while keeping families safe.
Here’s to 2026…may it be full of light.
