NO Big Box stores or online (Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon).

No chain restaurants or coffee shops.

Support small businesses, restaurants, studios, local artists, and artisans; especially those with owners in marginalized or targeted communities.

Buy gifts of experience, time together, or learning something new. Gift consumables. Buy gently used, when possible.

Pay with cash, not credit/debit cards.

Raise your awareness.
Be intentional in who you support.
It’s a mindfulness practice.

These photos of our Tai Chi Friendsgiving Celebration captures the essence of the moments far better than my mere words. It was a perfect evening for a group moving meditation practice as the late November sun slowly sets.

In this season of gratitude and thanks-giving, I want to say that it is an honor and one not afforded to many tai chi instructors, to be able to guide students into the depths of a single form. I am grateful for the community of folks, some of which have been practicing the Yang 24 Form with me for over a decade. There is beauty in the intentional practice of staying.

I am grateful for Sherry who nurtures new fledgling tai chi enthusiasts and gently welcomes them into this life long practice.

Thank you Sherry for the photos (so unfortunately she’s not in them). Thank you to everyone who made and brought food to share. This group always go above and beyond. Thank you to Mark for making chili in a crockpot and bringing your own power source. And several of us even got to go home with lovely wreaths handmade by Dave.

We are truly blessed with a community who cares for others and for each other.

The St. Croix Valley Food Alliance Winter Market is tomorrow (Sunday, 11/23) 12:00 - 3:00pm at Abrahamson’s in St Croix Falls.

Dr Holly has a table there! She is a plein air oil painter, meaning she paints out in the “open air” in the elements and the rapidly changing light to try to capture the energy, beauty, and feeling of the landscape. Plein air painting is very challenging and rewarding all at the same time. With it comes, wind, rain, cold, and bugs (ticks, mosquitos, biting flies) - basically all the elements in their fullness and fury. It takes deep attention and focus and has been a source of healing for her.

Dr Holly also spins wool from locally raised sheep and hand dyed fiber (primarily wool) from other artisans. Spinning is very meditative. She started out with a drop spindle and was immediately hooked so quickly moved to a wheel.

Yesterday evening, photographer Jenn Cheesebrow came out to the studio for a Team Fabulous photo shoot.

Our team is made up of eclectic practitioners and instructors gifted in various ancient traditional healing modalities. Plus we have a warm healing space and vibe. Jenn got us pulled together and we looked… well, FABULOUS!

Oooh yeah! Temps look fabulous! -in the low 50’s for our Annual Outdoor Tai Chi Friendsgiving Potluck and Hot Dog Roast!

Ok, so I literally just made up the last half of that sentence right now. But when you have an awesome community, you can make up whatever tradition you want involving a roaring campfire and they’re all IN!

This heartfelt initiative to support Minnesota immigrants and refugees in-need is spearheaded by someone in our studio community, because we just have cool people like that!
