Jackson Grammer was a Golden Retriever who lived life exactly the way it should be lived—full of joy, full of personality, and surrounded by people. He never met a stranger, only future friends, and his greatest goal in life was simple and sincere: to sit on the lap of every person he met.
Jackson loved campus life and adored OSU. He bled orange through and through, loved the Cowboys, and had a special place in his heart for Pistol Pete. Wherever Jackson went, a crowd followed—drawn in by his warm eyes, wagging tail, and unmistakable presence.
His path to Pete’s Pet Posse felt inevitable. With his big brother Toby already a P3 pup and both of his human siblings proud OSU graduates, Jackson was born into a Cowboy family. As a puppy in 2016, he began visiting campus on Fridays at lunchtime while his big sister was a first-year veterinary student and his big brother studied architectural engineering. After years of being endlessly cuddled by students, there wasn’t a Cowboy or Cowgirl he didn’t love. Joining P3 wasn’t just something Jackson did; it was his passion.
When he wasn’t curled up in someone’s lap or wrestling with his beloved little P3 brother Finnley, Jackson was most at home on the water. Paddle boarding, kayaking, dock diving or living on a houseboat in Minnesota for a week at a time—if it involved water, Jackson was all in. At the lake, he proudly served as the “big dog,” teaching Finnley and his human siblings’ puppies, Bentley and Jolene, the fine art of fetching toys and balls from the water.
With his mom, Susan, retired, Jackson could often be found visiting all corners of campus, spreading comfort and joy. He also spent time in the Geology Department with his dad, Mike—always working hard to be just a little more popular than his brother Toby. He even attended the Boone Pickens School of Geology Field Camp in Colorado.. His favorite hobbies included playing ball, tracking deer and rabbits in the yard, and enjoying his favorite treat, “pizza bones”.
Jackson earned his Canine Good Citizen and was certified with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, but his true legacy can’t be measured in titles. It lives in the countless students, faculty, and staff whose days were made brighter because Jackson showed up—tail wagging, heart open, ready to love.
Jackson Grammer was full of life, full of joy, and full of Cowboy spirit. He loved OSU, and OSU loved him right back. His pawprints are forever part of campus, this program, and the hearts of all who knew him.
Jackson passed away suddenly on December 18 due to a cardiac episode. His loss is felt deeply by his family, the Pete’s Pet Posse community, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest easy, Jackson. Thank you for a job well done.
