This season, we’re reminded of the power of togetherness and the importance of those who make our lives brighter. Through acts of kindness, no matter how small, we can make a big impact.

Debbie Sellers, Manager of Patient Experience, embodies this philosophy. Through the St. Joseph's Foundation's Special Needs Fund, Debbie implemented a program to provide patients with essential items like reading glasses and USB charging cables to patients and their family members facing an unexpected stay in the hospital.

"It's about giving patients peace of mind," Sellers says. "When they don't have to worry about the little things, they can focus on healing."

Thank you for coming together to support St. Joseph's Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Foundation of San Joaquin

Thank you Colin Construction Company for your on work in our Cath Lab. This project was supported through Philanthropic Giving, ensuring that St. Joseph's Medical Center remains a top-tier hospital serving our community.

Our team recently completed a design-build renovation for Cath Lab #3 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, CA, under HCAI jurisdiction. The project replaced outdated equipment with a new Philips Azurion FlexArm system, a major upgrade that enhances the hospital’s cardiovascular imaging capabilities.

The renovation scope included the installation of new monitor and surgical light booms, new boom structures, and a Unistrut rack to support ceiling-hung equipment. Existing entry doors and frames were replaced, now featuring fire alarm connected hold open devices. Updated casework and storage solutions were provided in both the Procedure and Control Rooms to enhance patient care delivery.

New flooring was installed with a pattern illustrating the C-arm field of motion to promote user safety. Medical gas system upgrades included new zone valve box alarm panels and new wall and ceiling outlets. A new pressure alarm system, tied into the building’s BMS, was added to monitor pressure differentials between the Procedure Room and Corridor. The existing scrub sink in the Corridor was replaced with a new unit.

The new hard-lid ceiling in the Procedure Room includes laminar flow registers meeting current code criteria and a dimmable LED lighting system integrated with the Philips foot pedal controls. The site was upgraded with new isolation panels and 480V emergency power to support the full system UPS and increased power requirements. Updates to Fire Alarm and Nurse Call systems were also completed for compliance.

Because the work took place in an active Cath Lab department—adjacent to both the Surgery and ICU areas—our team implemented the highest level of infection control measures and collaborated closely with the design team, end users, owners, and subcontractors to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to hospital operations.

We’re proud to deliver another healthcare project that supports advanced patient care and continues our strong partnership with the St. Joseph’s Medical Center team.

Through the Antone E. and Marie F. Raymus Foundation’s generosity, St. Joseph’s Medical Center brought our “Ouchless” pediatric program to our Emergency Department. The ER can be an overwhelming and frightening experience for children, so the Ouchless program is focused as much on emotional well-being as physical healing. Through the Raymous Foundation, we brought specialized training, techniques, and equipment to our ER clinicians.

The Ouchless pediatrics program includes designated private treatment rooms that specialize in serving children, equipped for both serious injuries or minor illness, child-sized medical equipment, bright, fun, child-focused décor to calm and soothe the patients, and state-of-the-art, age appropriate entertainment.

This program ended up being even more necessary with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which added another stressor for children and their families. Because of forward thinking and partnership with the Raymus Foundation, St. Joseph’s Medical Center was better equipped to best serve our community no matter the need.

Today is ! This day signifies the importance of working together for the common good. Philanthropic deeds come in all different shapes and sizes — and ages!

We want to give thanks to the next generation of philanthropists, such as Kids Taking a Stand, a kid-run organization raising money to fight cancer through lemonade stands. Since 2017, Kids Taking a Stand have raised over $138,000 for St. Joseph’s Cancer Institute!

Other young philanthropists in the making are volunteering and educating, like Mia, who volunteered her time to educate all of us on the different types of cancer during the Fun Run Kickoff Party.

Even the youngest among us can change the world through charitable giving, volunteering, and a random act of kindness. What will you do today?

As the only dedicated 24/7 NICU in San Joaquin County, St. Joseph’s Medical Center is charged with the care and comfort of the most vulnerable of infants. Through the generosity and dedication of the Antone E. & Marie F. Raymus Foundation, we have been able to continue to elevate NICU care and comfort with a neonatal transport isolette as well as x-ray plates to provide faster and more advanced imaging for clinicians, and peace of mind for families.

On this we want to give a special shout out to BooBoo - the very first Therapy Dog to grace the halls of St. Joseph’s Medical Center. BooBoo was abandoned on the side of a road and adopted by Carolyn and Rudy Lopez. Carolyn, a volunteer at St. Joseph’s since 1995, saw something special in BooBoo and in 2005, he began his tenure as a therapy dog, bringing comfort to patients all over the hospital.

As the program grew, the entire hospital was visited by BooBoo and an ever-growing pack of Therapy Dogs, following in BooBoo's small but mighty pawprints. You can learn more about BooBoo and his legacy on our website: https://www.supportstjosephshospital.org/ways-to-give/legacy-of-booboo

A gift to our community

St. Joseph’s legacy began in 1899 under the leadership of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael.

No one present that day in 1899 could have likely imagined that the 25 bed, $35,000 home and hospital would grow into today’s 355 bed medical center with a history of firsts in cardiac, cancer, women’s and children’s, and emergency services, and now a major training center for physicians.

Just as the original opening of St. Joseph’s was a gift to our community, we remain committed to serving the needs of our community – today – and well into the future.

Despite vast changes and advancements in medicine and technology, St. Joseph’s continues to live out our mission of serving and advocating for our brothers and sisters who are poor and disenfranchised and partnering with others in the community to improve the quality of life.
