I want to remind everyone that along with my book "The Music of Consciousness and The Art of Myofascial Release" at the BookBaby Bookstore I also offer an extensive video library of my custom approaches and insights into how to create your own techniques as needed. The complexity of the fascial system requires one to deep dive into the art of this work. You can find these videos by subscription at

I want to let everyone know that my book, "The Music of Consciousness and The Art of Myofascial Release is being really well received and it is accomplishing my goals for its message. I am definitely more left brained in my navigation of things and I have learned to rely more and more on intuition for the moment by moment guidance in treatment and in my life. Part of the message in my book is my journey from a deductive emphasis to experiencing life as an art.

In this age of scientific reason and its emphasis on deductive explanations based on a certain interpretation of the facts, the human factor can often be lost. When I went through physical therapy training, I understood that my oath was to my patient and their well-being. So, when evaluating the val...

We just completed our 2nd Mentoring clinic. We presented great shoulder techniques for thoracic outlet and shoulder impingement syndromes. Thoracic outlet restrictions can present similar symptoms as herniated cervical disc, carpal tunnel, arthritic hand, and rotator cuff problems. Videos showing these will be added to our MFR TV site about one a week. You can subscribe at MFRTV.com

Karey and I just got back from taking Fascial/Pelvis from John Barnes in San Francisco. John graciously allowed us to film him demonstrating the side lying psoas release with our infrared camera. Here is the link to the video on Youtube. https://youtu.be/vsAF5zMdE_g

John Barnes allowed us to film his instruction of the sidelying psoas release instruction with an infrared camera.

Karey and I are back from the Fascia Research Congress in Vancouver. There was so much information and research that validates what we do it is difficult to put it all together.

It is no longer a problem of lack of evidence, but a problem taking a complex explanation and making it simple enough to be useful in a treatment setting. It is very clear that Myofascial Release is no longer outside of an evidence based practice. Myofascial release has clear clinical benefits to a number of human systems for the promotion of healing.

There was a definite trend, within the presentations, of treating with less force and longer holds.

A surprising example of this was found in the production of interleukin (a crystaline communication protein for healing). Levels actually went down with less than 3 minute holds. Interleukin 8 regulates inflammatory response and is not stimulated until you hold for 3 minutes. It more than doubles once you hold for 5 minutes. Interleukin 3 regulates blood cell production and increases production after 4 minute holds.

Here is a link to Professor Paul Standley's presentation and research on this and evidence that myofascial release helps tissue to heal faster.

And from the hard sciences came an interesting study on water by Dr. Gerald Pollack and what it does within microtubule systems that have hydrophylic surfaces. Fascia is a hydrophylic surface. Water will form a liquid crystal on the surface of a hydrophylic surface and when you add energy you form a battery and water will begin to move. Particularly infrared energy, which is heat. MFR through it's pressure and through the energy of the therapist definitely puts infrared energy into the body.

When Carol Davis asked Dr. Gerald Pollack if myofascial release could produce a change in the state of the gel ground substance within fascia through this mechanism she got a resounding yes.

If you would like to see this lively lecture on this by Dr. Gerald Pollack, UW professor of bioengineering, you can view it here. This is a significant view on the theory of water.

We are definitely seeing the tide change.
