On March 2, a VMRC delegation of Public Policy Committee members and VMRC leadership staff traveled to the Capitol for Grassroots Day! This annual event, organized by Association of Regional Center Agencies (ARCA), brings together self-advocates, family members, and representatives from all 21 regional centers to meet with state legislators and their staff.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share our personal stories, relevant bills and to advocate for the priorities of people with developmental disabilities and their families.

VMRC appreciates the time spent meeting with California State Legislators and their staff, including: Assemblymembers Heath Flora, Rhodesia Ransom, David Tangipa Juan Alanis, and Heather Hadwick; and Senators Marie Alvarado-Gil and Jerry McNerney.

...in service to people with developmental disabilities and their families in the Valley Mountain region.

Our page is used as a way for us to share events in our region, inspirational stories about people with developmental disabilities in our region and beyond, updates about the regional center, and anything of significance that may impact our community.

We serve just over 16,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. Free diagnosis and assessment services are available to any person suspected of having a developmental disability, such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, or autism. To qualify for ongoing support and services, a person must be found to have a developmental disability which began before the age of 18 and is a substantial handicap.

Who We Are and What We Do: We are a private, non-profit corporation that contracts with the State of California to provide diagnostic, evaluation, case management, and early intervention services to people with developmental disabilities. We purchase services such as respite, out-of-home placement, adult day programs, transportation, behavior intervention, infant development services, clinical, and diagnostic services for people with developmental disabilities

CALIFORNIA EARLY START PROGRAM: We serve over 2000 children under age 3 and their families are served in VMRC’s Early Start Program which emphasizes family-focused, community based, coordinated care. VMRC collaborates with other agencies and the family as an integrated team. Eligibility criteria for the Early Start program: a child with a delay of 1/3 or more in one area of development (cognitive, social-emotional, adaptive, motor, communication); a child with established risk condition: a child at risk for developmental problems, due to birth issues or other factors.
