Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Not just with words — but with action.

Dr. King reminded us that “The time is always right to do what is right.”
That message still calls us forward today.

At SHAW 4 Community, we believe doing what’s right looks like:
• Showing up for our community
• Creating access where there are barriers
• Leading with love, dignity, and justice
• Choosing humanity over convenience

MLK Day is not just a day of remembrance — it’s a day of responsibility.
A reminder that service, equity, and courage are not seasonal.

Let’s continue the work.
Let’s be the change.
Let’s do what’s right — together.

Where Community Thrives Together.

Message from the CEO of SHAW 4 Community

The state of our city’s health and wellbeing weighs heavily on my heart today.
Last night’s senseless act of violence, a mass shooting in Stockton that harmed children, is yet another devastating reminder of how deeply our community is hurting.

At SHAW 4 Community, we know that violence is not just a public safety issue, it is a public health issue. It is a symptom of unaddressed trauma, chronic stress, lack of access to wellness resources, and the emotional and mental strain so many families in our city experience every single day.

This tragedy is exactly why we fight so hard for holistic health and wellness in Stockton.
Why we advocate for safe spaces.
Why we create programs rooted in healing, connection, and belonging.
Why we focus on underserved communities who are disproportionately impacted by trauma and violence.

Our mission is not just to promote fitness or nutrition, it is to transform lives.
To address trauma with compassion.
To build environments where our children feel safe, valued, and supported.
To remind our community that healing is possible, and that healthier communities are safer communities.

We extend our heartfelt prayers to the families affected. And we reaffirm our commitment to being a catalyst for change through advocacy, education, community engagement, and trauma-informed wellness programs.

Stockton deserves a future where safety, healing, and opportunity are not privileges, but rights.
Our children deserve to grow up in communities that protect them, uplift them, and allow them to thrive.

SHAW 4 Community will continue doing the work with intention, with compassion, and with the unwavering belief that together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient Stockton.

🇺🇸 Honoring Our Heroes 🇺🇸

Today, we pause with deep gratitude to honor the brave men and women who have served our country — protecting the freedoms and opportunities we all enjoy.

At The SHAW Bar, SHAW 4 Community, 209 Hikes, and The F.I.T. Me, we believe true wellness includes acknowledging the strength, courage, and sacrifice of those who put service above self.

To every veteran — we thank you.
For your bravery, resilience, and commitment to something greater than yourself, we salute you. ❤️💪🏾

Let’s continue to build a community that not only honors our veterans today, but supports them every day through compassion, inclusion, and opportunity.

Humanity in Action ❤️

Today, The SHAW Bar & SHAW 4 Community had the honor of donating food items to the food pantry at Langston Hughes Academy High School.

After learning that families were struggling due to the recent cuts in SNAP benefits, the school sent out an email requesting donations to help fill their pantry and we didn’t hesitate to respond. Children should never have to go hungry.

Direct giving through schools is one of the most effective and dignified ways to support families during times like this. Many parents don’t have the time, transportation, or resources to reach large food distribution sites. By working directly with schools, we help ensure food reaches children where they already are; in a safe, familiar environment that eliminates barriers and stigma.

At SHAW 4 Community, dignity is at the heart of everything we do, and this act of giving was another way to honor that. We believe in meeting people where they are, not where we expect them to be.

We’ll be making another delivery soon to continue helping families through this difficult time.

We’re just doing our part one meal, one child, one act of humanity at a time.
💪🏾❤️🙏🏾

🌟 Summit Seekers in Action! 🌟

The last Summit Seeker Session our youth took a major step in developing their leadership and communication skills! 🙌🏾
During our Public Speaking 101 session, they learned:
🎤 How to talk to strangers with confidence
💬 How to engage in meaningful conversations
🗣️ How to use their voices with power and purpose

We hosted fun and interactive breakout sessions, and our Seekers practiced their new skills by conducting community surveys with each other — preparing for their big assignment this Saturday!

📍 Where: Victory Park (in front of Haggin Museum, Pershing Ave side)
📅 When: Saturday, November 2nd
🕚 Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Our future leaders will be out in the community conducting real surveys to learn more about what YOU love, need, and want to see improved in Stockton. Your feedback matters — these surveys will help them create a community report that will be presented to our Mayor and City Council at the end of the year. 📝🏛️

✨ This is more than a project — it’s about giving youth a voice in shaping the future of their city while helping the community be heard. When we come together, everyone grows!

💧 Free drinks and snacks will be provided — plus a few fun surprises!
📱 Can’t stay long? Scan our QR code to fill out the survey digitally!

Come out, support our youth, and help them continue their journey as leaders, listeners, and changemakers. 💙

💔 When the Government Shuts Down, Our Humanity Must Rise Up!” 💔
Lakeisha Little-Shaw

The recent government shutdown has left our most vulnerable: families, children, seniors, and those living with disabilities without access to essential food benefits overnight. For many, this means empty plates and growing worry about how to feed their loved ones.

This is the moment for us, as neighbors, leaders, and community members to come together and fill in the gap. This is what humanity looks like in action.

✨ Here’s how we’re stepping up:
🍱 The SHAW Bar will be donating all meal preps to our most vulnerable community members (disabled/elderly).
🥦 All perishable food donations will go directly to families with children.
📦 All monetary donations will be used to purchase food boxes for families in need — distributed through SHAW 4 Community, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving San Joaquin County.

Let’s show what true community looks like: COMPASSION, UNITY, and ACTION.
You can call, stop by The SHAW Bar, or donate online to help us feed our neighbors in need.

❤️ Together, we can make sure no one is left hungry.

Honoring Indigenous People’s Day | October 13, 2025

Today we pause to honor the history, resilience, and enduring strength of Indigenous communities. Their wisdom, traditions, and deep connection to the earth continue to guide us toward balance, unity, and respect for all living things.

At SHAW 4 Community, The S.H.A.W. Bar, The F.I.T. Me, 209 Hikes, and Summit Seekers Squad, we are committed to learning from, uplifting, and standing in solidarity with Indigenous voices — not just today, but every day.

May we continue to walk in gratitude, honor the land we stand on, and celebrate the vibrant cultures that have shaped its story.

Today we celebrate mental health around the world, because every mind matters. At SHAW 4 Community, we know that wellness is more than physical — it’s mental, emotional, and social too. Through programs like 209 Hikes, Summit Seekers, Nourish the Block, and our Community Fit Camps, we are creating safe spaces where people can heal, grow, and thrive together.

Let’s foster understanding, empathy, and support for one another — because no one should ever feel alone on their journey.

Recognizing the importance of student mental health and well-being, UOP continues to show its commitment by investing in spaces that foster healing, connection, and awareness. This powerful event gave students the opportunity to prioritize wellness in such a meaningful way.

We at SHAW 4 Community were honored to be invited to collaborate providing lunch, helping to host and lead, and offering our support for this special hike. We are grateful to stand alongside UOP in creating safe, supportive spaces where students can thrive. 🌱✨
