Let’s talk bedtime boundaries.

Some of the most important factors in a little one’s bedtime routine are consistency, predictability, and clear boundaries. It’s helpful to do the same routine every night and, when toddlers test the boundaries, to reinforce them in a clear and consistent way.

Little ones crave predictability— it helps them to feel safe and in control. They want to know what to expect. They’ll explore & push the boundaries time and time again to see if they always get the same response and reaction. When they do, they’ll relax and feel more at ease and confident with the routine, which leads to a more enjoyable and effective bedtime!

So the next time your little one tries to get you to tell another story, answer another question, get one more drink, or rearrange the furniture before you leave at bedtime, lovingly set that boundary and know that what your little one wants and needs more than anything is a reliable and consistent response from you.
