A haircut.
For many families, it’s a quick errand squeezed in between school and dinner.
For some of our kiddos, it can feel terrifying.
The sound of clippers can feel like an alarm going off inside their body.
The sensation of tiny hairs falling on their skin can feel unbearable.
The pressure to “just sit still” can feel impossible.
And for caregivers, it can feel exhausting — the worry, the stares, the fear of judgment, the memories of past attempts that didn’t go well.
So we changed the environment instead of changing the child.
We invite an incredible stylist into our clinic — a place that is familiar, safe, and supportive. While hair is being cut, our therapy team surrounds the child with regulation tools that work for them — movement breaks, music, fidgets, visual supports, or simply time.
There’s no rush.
No shaming.
No forcing.
No expectations of perfection.
Just patience.
Just compassion.
Just meeting a child exactly where they are.
Sometimes the biggest victories don’t look dramatic.
Sometimes they look like a few snips of hair… and a child who felt safe while it happened.
And that matters more than anything. 💙🧡💚❤️
A big thank you to our stylist, Megan Roy! We all appreciate you so much!!
