Today we welcomed students from the Rural Health Immersion Program, hosted by Healthy Acadia and Dr. Murnik. This program gives medical, dental, and physical therapy students a chance to learn about living and working in rural communities.

We hosted 10 students for lunch at the Island Community Center, where Ashley shared about the work we are doing in our community. It was a great conversation with thoughtful questions from the group.

Before leaving, each student received Narcan and training on how to use it. We’re grateful for the chance to connect with future healthcare professionals and share the work happening here on the island. 💛

We are planning Hope Day at Deer Isle - Stonington High School again this year. The day is inspired by the work of the The Yellow Tulip Project, which focuses on building hope and reducing the stigma around mental health for young people.

As part of the day, students will participate in small breakout sessions, and we’re looking for community members who would be interested in sharing a hobby, skill, or activity with a small group of students. These sessions should be fun, relaxing, uplifting, or hope-focused — something that gives students a chance to connect and try something new.

Some ideas we’ve come up with include: journaling, DIY crafts, meditation or breathing exercises, storytelling or improv, board or card games, pet therapy, gratitude jar activities, karaoke, magic tricks, field games, fused glass, movement activities, co****le, relaxation techniques, yoga, sound therapy, henna, music, vision boards, decorating sugar cookies, or gardening — but we’re open to anything you’d like to lead!

If you might be interested, comment here or send us a message and we’ll follow up with more details. We’d love to have community members be part of this meaningful day for our students. 💛
