You’ve met Scout, but now it’s time to meet the brave little girl who named them! Nine-year-old Melody B., a patient from one of our pediatric practices, researched wolves in Yellowstone, learning that wolves travel in packs and rely on scouts who are brave and help guide the group. That’s how she landed on the name Scout.

Meet Penelope and Sydney, the daughters of author and mother, Paige Pedroli! 👋 Paige welcomed her eldest daughter Penelope via emergency C-section at 37 weeks. Penelope was taken to Stony Brook Children’s NICU immediately, where she received critical care and ongoing follow-up from our multidisciplinary team. Years later, Paige returned to our NICU with her second daughter, Sydney, who was born six weeks early and spent 14 days growing stronger under our care. Seeing familiar faces along the way brought Paige and Sydney comfort during their stay with us.

Inspired by her family’s journey, Paige wrote “Welcome to the “NIC-ZOO,” a children’s book designed to help siblings and families understand the NICU in a comforting, age-appropriate way. Recently, Paige hosted a book drive and donated 30 books to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, helping bring comfort and reassurance to other NICU families.

At Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, we are honored to care for families during some of their most vulnerable moments, and inspired by how those experiences often come full circle. Thank you, Paige!

Yesterday’s Wolfie Holiday Toy Drive was a reminder of what our community can do when we come together.

For the first time, the parade traveled across both West and East Campuses, stopping at the Stony Brook Union and the Long Island State Veterans Home before reaching Stony Brook Medicine Children's Hospital. Staff, first responders, and volunteers worked side by side to create moments of comfort and joy for children and families spending the holidays in our care.

Thank you to everyone who donated, cheered along the route, or gave their time to support this tradition. Your kindness helped make magic for these families. ❤️

A huge thank you to Halesite Fire Department for bringing Buddy and his elf friends by to spread holiday cheer and surprise our kiddos with special gifts. It was a truly magical day!
