While our primary focus is supporting Deaf children, B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf is also home to a social needs classroom that serves children on the autism spectrum—children who would otherwise have nowhere to go.

In the region we serve, there are no designated schools for children with autism. Many are left at home without access to education. Others face neglect, abuse, and in some heartbreaking cases, even lose their lives simply because of their disability.

We believe every child deserves more—an education, a safe environment, and the opportunity to be seen, valued, and supported.

This month, in recognition of Autism Awareness Month, we invite you to stand with us. Please help us share this mission with your friends and families and be part of creating a safer, more inclusive future for these children.

Hi everyone, Marcy here.

I wanted to take a moment to share an important update about what we’re doing at Hearts that Hear. Over the next several months (possibly years), however long it takes, we will be working to build a safe house for children with disabilities in Kenya.

Why are we doing this? Quite simply, because we have to.

While our mission remains focused on education for Deaf children and children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and speech delays, we also know that education alone is not enough. For a child to truly grow, learn, and thrive, they must first have a safe place to live and be cared for.

Is this goal ambitious? Absolutely.
Is it out of reach? Not with help.

The realistic cost of this project is between $50,000 and $75,000 — likely closer to the higher end. But I cannot sit back and pretend that if we do nothing, these children will somehow be okay. We are doing this because we have seen firsthand the condition some children arrive in, and we know they need more. They need a place to go during school breaks where they will be loved, protected, free from abuse and neglect, and given the nutritional and medical care they deserve. I don’t know exactly when this project will be completed, but I do know this: it is necessary.

The drama team at B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf has been hard at work—practicing, performing, and even bringing home wins at regional competitions!

These extracurricular opportunities go far beyond the stage. They build confidence, amplify voices, and create powerful awareness. With every performance and every win, these students are showing their community just how talented—and capable—they truly are.

It was such a gift to welcome our friends Philip and Kristen from to the B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf during their time in Kenya. There is something incredibly powerful about watching different missions come together, each bringing their own strengths, their own heart, and their own purpose, to support the children of Kenya.

Moments like this remind us that this work was never meant to be done alone. When we collaborate, share ideas, and lift one another up, the impact reaches so much further than any one organization could do on its own. Together, we are creating opportunities, building community, and making sure these children are seen, supported, and given every chance to thrive.

We’re thrilled that Lizzie was able to have her surgery today and is on her way to healing! Thank you to Village of Hope for coordinating transportation to Kenya Relief and to the surgeons who took incredible care of her. The growth will now be biopsied and we are praying the results will show she is clear of any more health issues!

Meet Lizzie. 💙

After waiting two long years, Lizzie is finally getting the surgery she needs to remove a growth from her eye. The growth has made it difficult for her to see and has caused ongoing discomfort. For Lizzie, who is Deaf, clear eyesight is essential for communication, learning, and navigating the world around her.

Thanks to a special eye clinic, Lizzie is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow, a life-changing step forward. We are so grateful for this opportunity, and now we’re asking for your help to make it possible.

If you’re able, please consider supporting Lizzie’s surgery and recovery. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.

This is friendship. It extends beyond words.

Many of our students come from backgrounds where they are excluded or shunned by other children. But within the walls of this school, something beautiful happens. Here, they are kind. They laugh freely. They belong. They are family.

Friendship here transcends different disabilities, different abilities, and different ways of communicating. It’s found in shared smiles, inside jokes, quiet moments, and unspoken understanding. It’s about seeing one another not for what sets them apart, but for what brings them together, curiosity, connection, and the simple desire to be accepted.

In this school, inclusivity isn’t just a value, it’s lived every day. It shines in classrooms, in the school yard, and in moments like this, where friendship becomes a safe place, a common ground, and a reminder that every child deserves to be seen, loved, and included.

Meet four children who are in desperate need of sponsorship. They previously had sponsorship but have lost their sponsors due to no fault of their own. Judith has lost both her mother and father, Navasha and Darling are sisters who started school late due to tribal stigma around Deafness and Alvox is raised by a single mother. All of these students are bilaterally Deaf and need financial assistance to continue their education. For only $38/month, you can change their lives and give them stability. Secondary school update!! Our students have started their shopping with Millicent and are starting their classes! This is so exciting! Many students, especially Deaf students in Kenya never have the opportunity to go to high school due to school fees and the required materials they have to bring. We are elated to bring this opportunity to our students and give them continued educational opportunities.
