Let’s talk about something that often gets overlooked after a health crisis.

It’s now been 25 days since my entire herd of dairy goats battled a lung infection that progressed into pneumonia. It’s been a hard month — emotionally, physically, and financially — but thankfully we’re finally on the other side of it. And looking back, there’s an important step I realized many of us forget when we’re in pure survival mode.

Once the worst has passed, it isn’t just about healing bodies — it’s about resetting the environment they live in.

After a full deep clean of the barn and opening every door and window for fresh air and light, I focused on clearing the stagnant energy that had built up during those stressful weeks. I smudged the exterior and used sound (a simple cow bell) to help shift the atmosphere. Call it good Feng Shui, call it practical sense — either way, the difference is undeniable. The space feels lighter, calmer, and noticeably more peaceful.

We’re quick to cleanse and refresh our homes and offices, but we often forget barns, animal shelters, and outdoor structures carry energy too — especially after illness, stress, and loss. I was so focused on healing my animals that I nearly overlooked healing their space. I’m grateful a close friend reminded me.

Now when I step into the barn, it no longer carries the weight of worry. It feels hopeful again. And that alone reminds me of something powerful: healing isn’t just physical. Our environments matter more than we realize.

If you’ve been through a period of stress or illness — for yourself, your family, or your animals — take a moment to reset the space too. Clear it. Refresh it. Protect it.
