Hi, I'm moving to Kansas.

It's unexpected. In fact, at first it seemed random. But it's not, it's actually perfect. It's actually completely right.

If there's one thing I know, it's that things change. I've changed. What used to be the dream isn't anymore. What used to feel right, doesn't anymore.

It breaks my heart a little, AND it makes room for growth. New growth. Different growth.

I'm moving to be closer to my family. January is my last month of practicing massage.

Yoga classes don't yet have an end date, I'll talk to students in class, and post here.

It really has been a blessing for the past 3 years. I can't tell you how much it means to me. If you've been a part of my journey at any point or in any way, I appreciate you πŸ’–

Sometimes my clients are appalled when I first mention their lifestyle could be contributing to the pain/stiffness/chronic misalignments they are experiencing.

They look at me with confusion. They are trying to find some 'outlier' or unusual behavior in their day-to-day. They can't find one. They think "I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, it must be something else causing my problems".

Not necessarily.

Many of our "normal behaviors" are based on culture.

But culture isn't designed to make you healthy.
I know because culture isn't something that's designed.

It's something that evolves.

Not with what is best for us, but with what sounds the best to most of us. It's influenced by many things, including preference, influential people, marketing, and convenience. Lots of other things, too. But these are included.

The human body has been evolving for Milena to survive (and thrive) in nature. It's made to move more than not. It's made to sleep well. It's made to eat natural foods. It's made to live in nature's cycles. Day and night, summer and winter.

The more we disrupt these patterns/needs, the harder it is for you body to thrive.

You may have to work against culture to feel as good as you want to.

I'm here to support that journey.

**IMPORTANT** Yoga Class schedule changes this week.

1)Tuesday the 30th class
Is CANCELLED. I'm sick! Bad soar throat, fatigue, but my sense of smell/taste is in tact 😜

2) Saturday the 4th. LOCATION
We are having class at 9am as usual, but instead of being at the legion hall it will be at the rec center.

1932 Burton street, Strasburg, CO. Enter through the "back" door on the east side of the building

I've gone rounds with body image. I've though I was too big a lot. I've hated my shape, wishing I looked more athletic. I have felt beautiful, and I've desperately hoped that people would just see my body as acceptable.

It's personal, it's also cultural. I run into it with clients.

"My knees must hurt because I'm overweight"

"Ya I really should do yoga. I need to lose weight anyway"

"Oh I can't do that, I'm too old/fat/uncoordinated"

What if your knees hurt because your quads are tight?

What if yoga could help you feel more energetic and strong? What if yoga could be fun to do?

What if everyone is "bad at yoga" at first. What if there actually is no such thing as "bad at yoga"?

What if yoga is not intended to be mastered, but it's actually a means to make your whole life FEEL better to you? What if the practice was just a tool, and how you looked during class was completely irrelevant?

I understand body image is an issue for a lot of people, but I would like to call attention to the ways that it undermines self care, and even affective treatment of pain and disease.

Thoughts? Experience? Lmk

Yoga practice starts in what we know. Stretching, better balance, calming anxiety.

Yoga practice comes in layers.

Truly, and in the end, yoga practice is designed to optimize the human experience.

It's destined to help you, as much as it's truly possible, thrive during your stay here on earth and in this body.

It's designed to help with everything from sciatic pain to the fear of death.

It can just be a physical practice, if that what you need right now. There's plenty to be gained there.

But if you like, it's a spiritual practice open to all religions.

If you like, you can use it to change your life.

If you like, you can grow and expand and be a better freind. A better family member. A more generous and forgiving person. A happier person.

Yoga meets you wherever, however you actually are.

If the answer was simple, would you feel releived or defensive?

I've had my share of issues with my body (pain, dysfunction, tightness, weak muscles).

There were times when people offered me helpful information/ideas, and I didn't want to hear what they had to say.

Their intentions were good, but Many times they didn't really know what was happening to me. People can be all too willing to guess what's wrong with you.

There was another piece, though. I was not really open to solutions.

It felt like they were telling me that it was my own fault that I felt the way I did. I felt like they didn't understand my experience. I wanted them to make room for me to feel the way I actually did, and their solutions felt like a rejection of what was real for me at the time. I did not welcome their offers.

Now, I'm the one offering solutions(when I know them). I see the other side. If I'm not sure exactly what will help you(but I have an idea), I call them experiments πŸ˜‚

I had to come to solutions in my own time, and many of them were very difficult to dig up.

They lived in yoga, massage (Thai Bodywork), trainings by PTs that I did, personal trial and error over years, meditation, calming my mind and nerves, emotional healing, and really, really a lot of study on the human body, how is designed to function, and how westerners typically use our bodies in a way that doesn't necessarily make us feel good.

Just because it's normal, doesn't mean it's good for you.

Sitting on the floor instead of in a chair helps my lower back pain, my knee pain, and makes me feel more energetic.

It gently strengthens my core, helps with digestion, and helps me keep from being stuff and tight in my muscles.

It's weird, ya. I'm game for weird if it's better 🀷

Sometimes a well educated hippie has information that a doctor doesn't. Sometimes doctors don't try the simple stuff first. Sometimes doctors know more about medication than they do about creating a healthy body.

Its okay. They have their lane (which is very important). And I have mine (which is also very important). They are just DIFFERENT and good for different situations. Or maybe good together ☯️.
