**WEIGHT LOSS WEDNESDAY**
Most people have heard some version of this:
“If you’re not eating enough protein, your weight loss can plateau.”
And yes, protein matters. It helps preserve lean muscle, supports metabolism, improves recovery, and keeps you fuller longer. But what if protein isn’t the real reason progress has slowed?
There’s another number almost nobody is testing, and it may be one of the most important markers in your fat loss and long-term health journey:
Your Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio.
Truthfully, it’s the number almost no one is testing for… except us.
Because while many programs focus only on the scale, we focus on the environment inside the body that determines whether your efforts actually produce results.
Your body needs both omega-6 and omega-3 fats. They are essential fats, meaning your body cannot make them on its own, so they must come from what you eat. The issue is not that omega-6 is “bad” and omega-3 is “good.” The issue is balance.
Omega-6 tends to be more inflammatory in excess, while omega-3 helps create a more balanced, resilient internal environment. Ideally, we want that ratio around 3:1. But thanks to the modern food supply, many people are walking around with ratios far higher than that, even people who eat relatively healthy.
Why does that matter?
Because when that ratio is off, it can create ongoing low-grade cellular inflammation. Not the kind where you feel obviously sick, but the quieter kind that changes how efficiently your body works behind the scenes.
It can affect how your body handles fats in the bloodstream. LDL becomes more likely to become damaged and sticky. HDL becomes less efficient at cleaning things up. Triglycerides often begin to rise. Recovery can feel slower. Energy can feel flatter. Fat loss can feel harder than it should.
It also affects the membrane of your cells.
Think of the cell membrane as the doorway to every cell in your body. Nutrients need to get in. Waste and inflammatory signals need to get out. Hormones, medications, and peptides rely on healthy signaling across that membrane. When the membrane becomes too rigid from poor fatty acid balance, communication slows down.
That means you may be eating the protein, doing the workouts, staying consistent… and still not getting the full return.
As one expert said:
“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧.”
This is especially important during weight loss, where preserving muscle and improving body composition matter far more than simply losing pounds.
That’s why somewhere between weeks 6 to 12 of our client journeys, this becomes part of our deeper optimization strategy. Once the initial foundation is in place, we begin looking at the markers that can elevate results, improve recovery, and support long-term health.
Because we don’t just teach fat loss.
We teach body composition enhancement.
We teach healthspan strategy.
We teach how to build a body that supports a longer, healthier, stronger life.
Sometimes the next breakthrough is not more restriction.
Sometimes it’s testing the number no one else is talking about.
At Momentum, we believe longevity leaves clues. We help you find them.
