Malasana (Garland Pose) — Support Options for Every Body

Malasana is a powerful hip-opening pose, but depending on your ankle mobility, hip range, and balance, a little support can make the pose safer and more accessible. Here are four effective ways to practice it:

1️⃣ Blocks Under the Heels

If your heels lift off the floor, placing yoga blocks under them gives you stability and helps you keep the spine long. You can also sit on a block for extra support.

2️⃣ Rolled Blanket or Mat Under the Heels

For lighter support, use a rolled blanket or yoga mat. This reduces the depth of the squat while still allowing your chest to stay lifted and your hips to open comfortably.

3️⃣ Sitting on a Block

Sitting fully on a block is perfect if the hips feel tight or the knees are sensitive. Keeping the heels slightly forward helps maintain a long spine and prevents rounding in the lower back.

4️⃣ Sitting on a Bolster (with Optional Wall Support)

A bolster or two gives the most support. Practicing with your back against a wall helps you create length through the spine and find ease in the pose without strain.

✨ Why These Options Matter

Using props in Malasana improves alignment, protects your knees and lower back, and allows your hips to open gradually and safely. Choose the version that feels grounding, stable, and supportive for your body today.

Yoga isn’t about perfect poses — it’s about releasing struggle, comparison, and control.
Resistance in the body, breath, or mind only creates tension.
When we stop resisting, we become fully present.

Every pose becomes a chance to listen.
Every breath becomes an entry into ease.

♾️ We began as a Yoga and Holistic Wellness Studio. We’ve since evolved to more than Yoga— initially with Pilates, then to Barre AND now Fitness, Ballet and other movement styles. We continue to offer Classes, Events, and energetic & holistic practice offerings, but we’ve had to adapt and roll with it!

🙏🏼 There are many ways people can explore movement in their body to feel good, to look forward to doing it, and that promotes healthy living & positive aging.

👀Check out the variety of classes with curiosity and try something you wouldn’t otherwise! We had to change from where we were to where we are, and I’m so glad we did! Movement is Medicine. There is more than one path to .

Thank you Olivia for introducing our community to a unique movement method! Gyrokinesis is amazing. It may sound or seem different, but is yoga-like, dance-like, and just feels really good especially in the pelvis and spine 😌

I attended my first class today and highly recommend it! Follow Olivia to stay in the loop for where she teaches her offerings 🙏🏼
