Some of y’all have turned “ABA” into a boogeyman you can blame for everything from hurt feelings to… electric shock devices “stronger than police tasers.” Pure disinformation and that needs to stop.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here actually trying to help our kids live safer, happier lives.

ABA is not one monolithic thing.
It’s not 1980 anymore.
And the idea that modern ABA is just “camouflaging” or “self-erasure” might fit a viral tweet, but it doesn’t match the reality for kids like my son, kids who need help not running into traffic, not swallowing screws, not bolting from school, not hurting themselves.
That’s not “masking.” That’s SAFETY!

Are there bad providers? Yes.
Are there outdated practices that should never be used again? Absolutely.
But acting like the entire field is torture is just misinformation dressed up as advocacy.

My son doesn’t need to be “normalized.”
But he needs support. He needs communication. That’s why he learned to use an AAC device in ABA. ABA doesn’t suppress stims unless they’re self-injurious. No one is going to stop a child from flapping their hands. That’s not ABA.

If your only experience with ABA is TikTok horror stories, maybe at least have the guts to admit you’re not an expert on every autistic experience. Especially the ones that don’t look like yours.

Families like mine are fighting to keep their kids safe. Alive. And ABA helps.

We specialize in home services and will also be opening a preschool classroom for those kiddos who need to work on classroom readiness skills before they head to public school.

We understand that the recent government shutdown and changes in food assistance programs may be affecting some families in our community. At Meaningful Outcomes, we care deeply about the well-being of the families we serve and want to offer support where we can.

We are putting together boxes of non-perishable food items (such as pasta, pasta sauce, mac n' cheese, cereal, cereal bars, peanut butter, canned vegetables, and canned fruit) to share with our families who may be in need.

If you’d like to help, we welcome donations of non-perishable items. Donations can be dropped off at our office during normal business hours.

In addition, I wanted to make you aware that the Clam Box on Route 9 in Brookfield is also offering assistance. Their FB post states:

"EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY....The Clam Box Community Cares Project is now running. If you or your family has been affected by the defunding of SNAP benefits, your family should not go hungry. We urge you to come by and ask for a Community Cares Meal and we will provide a FREE pasta dinner TO-GO for the appropriate number of people in your family. No questions asked.

We are urging people in the community to come by and support this project by
1. Donating any funds to support this project with us
2. Prepay for a families meal( we will have pre-paid receipts for families to choose from)
3. Drop off any non-perishable food items in our Take It or Leave It box.

Thank you so much for your support in this matter as it directly touches home with so many in our community.

Please take a moment to review this release from the American Psychiatric Association. Bold and unsubstantiated claims can have far-reaching consequences—some lead to direct harm, while others divert attention and resources away from interventions that are evidence-based and demonstrated to be truly beneficial.

It truly takes a village to keep science at the forefront. As part of our response to this evolving situation, ASAT is currently preparing an article titled Leucovorin: Is There Science Behind That? We look forward to sharing it with you soon and will post the link in this thread once it's available.

Big News for Families in Massachusetts!

Starting January 1, 2026, MassHealth and private insurance agencies will be required to cover ABA services for children with Down syndrome as a sole diagnosis.

For years, ABA providers have advocated that ABA is not just for children with autism—it’s a science-based, individualized intervention that can support all children in reaching their fullest potential.

This change means more families will have access to the high-quality, clinically sound care they deserve, and more children will benefit from top-notch interventions designed to promote independence, learning, and meaningful outcomes.

We couldn’t be more excited to extend our services to support children with Down syndrome and to continue building a world where every child has the tools they need to thrive.
