I have worked in a few hospitals in OB before becoming a midwife. I was taught many things, most of them good, correct. But I found out this spring, that for breech babies, I was taught the incorrect way to help with a breech birth. I am absolutely amazed that the doctors I worked with in Labor and Delivery, did not know the correct way to help with a vaginal breech birth. I am by no way elevating doctors to a all knowing god status, but naively assumed their schooling would teach them the stuff needed to be successful in all types of deliveries! I find it sad that they did not receive the correct training with breech. I saw horrible outcomes in the hospital with breech and now I understand what I saw (which many traumatized me) was incorrect actions on the part of the doctor. I am not saying that to accuse, no, in fact I am frustrated with the educational system! I understand that we as a society should continue to learn and grow, and that will include learning new and better ways to do things.
This spring, I helped host the educational class on Breech with Dr. Stu. I learned so much. I am not saying that I will begin doing breech births all of the time. I will admit that I am less afraid of them. Most all of the breech births I have personally attended, more than half of them, have been surprise breeches. Last minute where the baby has turned and the mother shows up to the birth center with a breech baby coming. You have to help and do the birth. When that happens the correct skills can mean a difference.
I am so happy that I attended this class and I will plan to host his class every two years now. Just like the B.E. S. T. trainings! So worth my money and time. I encourage each midwife, nurse, doctor to take this class. (yes we did have two doctors attend the class with us, I love that!)

A little while back, I was the midwife delivering the 1000th baby born at the birthing center in Colon. Very cool! The couple received many gifts for this blessing!

(Not my 1000th as a midwife, as I have helped many more than that between home and birthing center-)

The FATHER tells us in Romans 12: 19-21 to not take our own vengeance. This is a difficult one for me in all honesty.
I have a very vengeful heart. I admit it. I struggle with anger too.
Some of my vengefulness and anger is directed towards those who are dishonest, who elevate themselves above others, esp when they do it to those less fortunate and they do not care who they hurt in the process. I have anger against liar's. I hate lies. I have no trust for those who lie. You can not be trusted.
After my 'arrest' for just 'being a midwife', which again, to recap: ALL charges were eventually dropped, but only after we told those 'in charge' we would expose illegal stuff happening in the local govt, community, medical people, etc.---
One thing I learned was to allow GOD to do-- as in Romans 12.
Oh the things I see happening now, even all these years later, I KNOW are from GOD 'allowing' these to happen. You can NOT treat people evil and go on with your life being safe, perfect-forever. You can NOT lie and continue to get away with it.
I will NOT say the things I am 'seeing', such as business fail, people I fail, or have horrible things happen in their life, are GOD causing them. I am in no way saying GOD causes these things to happen, but I believe HE 'allows' it to happen, due to their failed repentance of how they treat others and specifically - me. Does that mean I am more important than them? NO! BUT we have a basic law of this land on this earth. If you plant a corn seed, beans will not grow from that seed . So things are naturally set up to run and work in a certain way.
If you do evil to others, if you lie, all of that WILL catch up with you-your business-your family-everything! I believe GOD-the FATHER wants us all to get along, to love each other, to respect and care for each other and our earth. When we fail to do so, we reap what we sow. If we give evil, we will eventually get evil. If we lie, eventually those same lies will bring you down. If we hurt others and do not care -do not make it right-it will catch up with us!
HE uses all natural things in this world to come together for good for those who love HIM. So when a business fails, it might be from poor management. Money issues. But over all, that one (or more) in charge are not following certain principles that GOD has set up for how to treat each other- and it will spiral down to a failure.
Anyway, I learned this week about another failed business -One who laughed at me, who spoke horribly about me, who lied about me. One I saw treat the poor horribly many times thru the years. You can not do that and succeed for long. I do not gloat, I am actually sorry it is not open anymore. I really am. Its a stab to everyone who needs. used it. I never want anyone to fail, I want them to repent, work together -even thru the differences-and we all love and get along -for the good of humanity.

As a licensed midwife working outside of the hospital setting- we get to witness the beginning of life outside of the womb- as we know it here, on this earth. Most of the time it is a sweet uncomplicated event when these families work either at home or in the birthing center.
But when those times happen that we need to consider transferring a mother and baby, I am so grateful for midwives and doctors who are able and willing to receive these precious families.
This week has again, as other weeks past, been full of births, prenatal appointments, & post partum's. With very little personal time, going on little if any sleep- yesterday I assisted a first time family who greeted their first-a little boy.
After 6 years of trying to conceive, they welcomed this little 7 # and 8 ounce boy to their family. Just before the birth, she was ready to give up and go to the hospital for pain medication. After discussing her options with us and then her husband, and praying, she found the strength to "push" her way to receiving her baby at the birth center.
Again I am so thankful for those in the hospital, whom I had contacted in preparation for a possible transfer, that are willing to work with me and my patients.
