’Tis the season for giving, and our residents put their creativity to work for a great cause!

Introducing the Orchard Hill Holiday Shoppe, where every craft was handmade by our residents. Staff, residents, families, and visitors were able to shop for homemade gifts right here at Orchard Hill.

Thanks to a special connection through one of our residents’ daughters, all proceeds were donated to Gaining Ground, which supports many local partners, including the Sudbury Food Bank. Orchard Hill matched the proceeds received from the Holiday Shoppe to help make an even bigger impact for those facing food insecurities in our community this season.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this effort so meaningful!

Orchard Hill’s holiday lunch at The Wayside Inn was filled with love and tradition! Cliff, our owner, brought a carnation for each resident, sharing with them a piece of his childhood.

Every December on his family’s little farm, carnations were the pride of their greenhouse as they bloomed bravely through the cold. When they were ready, Cliff’s family would tap a long wooden crate and say, “Time to bring Christmas to the Wayside Inn.”

Cliff remembers carrying those carnations like treasures, their sweet scent mixing with the Inn’s woodsmoke as he walked inside. The staff would always smile and say, “Your flowers mean the holidays have begun.” They’d place the carnations on windowsills, tabletops, and mantels, brightening the Inn for every guest.

Sharing them once more carried the same heartfelt meaning, a simple flower, offered with love, sparking festive warmth all around.

They encourage focus, memory, and problem-solving, and there’s a real sense of satisfaction in watching the picture come together piece by piece. At Orchard Hill, we’re always happy to provide opportunities for residents to enjoy the hobbies they love, whether that’s puzzles, games, crafts, or ways to socialize with neighbors and friends.

We love moments like this at Orchard Hill. Pablo from our waitstaff shared his voice while Bill, one of our residents and an accomplished pianist, played the piano. It’s a beautiful reminder of the genuine relationships and shared joy that make our community a family.
