Foot pain is not a new problem. According to Egyptian papyrus and stone relief images that depict massages and pedicures dating to around 2,400 B.C., over 4,000 years ago, this problem has existed for millennia. Glad to know that even way back when people sought out the care they needed for their sore feet.

Beets and Gardenias are 2 of only 7 ingredients in new easy-on -the-environment shoe for everyday use. Other ingredients are wool, natural rubber, jute and wood! No plastics. The packaging is low profile too.
Since people buy, discard and give away a lot of shoes every year thinking about sustainability is worthwhile. This shoe could be a model and it challenged Saucony to get creative in design and manufacturing

Repeated exposure to cold temps may impair your body's ability to keep your warm in cold weather, research suggests. who writes the Sweat Science feature for Outside magazine looks at new research in . A common cause of painfully cold toes is a condition called Raynauds. Mild cases cause cold and painful toes and severe cases cause cold painful toes that develop sores that have difficulty healing. But according to Hutchinson, some of the folks with cold toes may simply have had long term exposure to the cold weather and now their toes and fingers do not adjust as well during cold spells. At Suffern we have sees toe temps range from 90 degrees F. If you suffer from cold toes in the winter, try a thin base sock under a heavier sock and, insulate your legs with long underwear, keep your torso warm and wear a warm hat and gloves. To keep your toes warm you have to keep your whole body warm too.

Unlike heat training, repeated exposure to cold doesn't necessarily help you handle winter weather better

A new Way to choose the appears in Outsideonline.com
Alex Hutchinson writes about the idea of using the "habitual motion" pattern of your knees, that is how they normally move when you are running, to figure out which shoe is best for you. Early research shows that using shoes that leave this "habitual motion" pattern unimpeded when you run results in less compression of your knee cartilage seen on MRI studies. shoes calls it your and they are testing out the theory in select stores around the country. But remember, lots of running injuries are still from training mistakes, not only shoe mistakes. https://buff.ly/38EFXl6

Pronation is out of favor, comfort is too vague, but maybe measuring your "habitual motion path" will guide you to a shoe that minimizes your injury risk

'Weird Times Call for Even Weirder Shoes', an article in the New York Times, reports on the growing popularity of water sandals-used for boating and hiking, as everyday shoes. This jibes with what I see in the office...non athletic patients in their 70s walking in wearing Keen water sandals, saying they like them for the comfort. According to the founder of Teva, Mark Thatcher, "Footwear connects you to the earth, to feelings of well being, agility and health...it always comes back to a deep subconscious thing. Freeing your feet can open up parts of your mind".

More refined than Crocs, but just as fashion defiant, water shoes are making the leap from trail hikers to city dwellers.

Stay at home and close to home orders have sent many folks out doors to try walking or running for exercise. If you are new to walking or running, or, even a seasoned runner, check out our new list of light weight, neutral shoes good for the beginner or someone just looking for a lighter weight shoe. These shoes also have a modestly low drop heel, meaning, that your heel is closer to the ground. Low drop shoes are favored by many professional runners and may be easier on the knees for people with knee issues. Podiatrist Shoe Recommendations https://buff.ly/2AVpEi5

Will Nike Vaporfly shoes cross over like Hoka One One shoes did? Hoka started as a niche shoe for ultra trail runners and now folks wear them around for walking. Nike's Vaporfly might attract older folks who could benefit from a rocker bar to give a gentle assist in forward walking and a light weight shoe, when the price drops. https://buff.ly/38cLih2

Shoes CAN make you a faster runner! In a review of 1000s of runners who have posted their results from multiple races including the shoes they wore, on the Stava app, the New York Times found that Nike's Vaporfly shoes improved speed 4-5 % in races like the Chicago Marathon, even for regular runners. The shoes have a combination of special foam and a carbon plate. Competitors like Hoka, Brooks, New Balance and Asics are trying to come up with their own versions as well. But for now, Nike is dominating this shoe war, which costs $250.
Regular folk have posted comments about the shoes. Some say they made them faster but hurt their knees due to the rocker sole. Others swear by them. There is no indication at present though to indicate that the shoes will help the average person just walking around. However, the shoes are light weight and I continue to advocate for light weight foot wear. https://buff.ly/2PP4FET
