Newport News Shipbuilding’s Apprentice School is hosting its next FORWARD (Future Opportunities Reaching the Workforce Apprentice Readiness and Development) Pre-Apprenticeship event on Saturday, March 14, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

This event is for high school students and will include hands-on demonstrations in a virtual simulation lab, a short tour of The Apprentice School and a Q & A session.

Registration opens on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 8:30 a.m. Seats are limited for this event. Student tickets are $5, and parent/guardian tickets are free.

Shipbuilders interested in volunteering for the event should contact Tarah Leake (O22).

Blakey Weaver Counseling Center, Inc. partners with ForKids to support families facing homelessness, poverty, and trauma in Southeastern Virginia. While ForKids helps families achieve housing stability and economic security, Blakey Weaver provides trauma-informed counseling and emotional wellness services that promote healing and resilience. Together, we ensure families receive coordinated support that strengthens both stability and mental health.

Blakey Weaver is honored to support Suffolk Public Schools students with our hygiene pantries at several schools. This initiative would not be possible without our partnership with CISofHR !

This is who we are at CISofHR!
Collaboration is one of our core values and we are all about being intentional when it comes to working with partners in our community. Our Site Coordinator over at Kings Fork MS collaborated with Blakey Weaver Counseling Center to stock and organize their hygiene pantry. Black Girl Magic✨

UPAC returns with a moving theatrical experience of poetry, music, dance, and storytelling about a journey of legacy and resilience. Black Girl Magic follows Sister, a young Black woman guided by the voices and wisdom of her ancestors as she explores identity and belonging across generations.

Written and compiled by Sharon Cook with original music by Roberta Lea, this year’s production introduces new songs and expands its story through three foundational pillars of the Black community.
