Itchy, red, watery eyes? Houston's spring allergy season is here, and it can be miserable.
To help you find relief and enjoy the season, our team of Houston eye doctors has put together a list of their top Do's and Don'ts for managing your symptoms.
DO THIS FOR RELIEF:
π Apply a Cold Compress: This provides immediate relief from itching and swelling.
π Wear Protective Sunglasses: Create a physical barrier that keeps pollen from getting into your eyes.
π Use Lubricating Eye Drops (Artificial Tears): They help rinse away allergens and soothe irritation.
AVOID DOING THIS:
π Rub Your Eyes: This is the most common mistake and it will make your symptoms worse by releasing more histamine.
π Wear Your Contact Lenses During a Flare-Up: Allergens get trapped under the lenses. Give your eyes a break and switch to glasses.
π Overuse "Gets the Red Out" Drops: These can cause rebound redness. Stick to lubricating or antihistamine drops instead.
While these tips can provide great relief, sometimes over-the-counter options aren't enough. Our comprehensive blog post explains when it's time to see a doctor for prescription-strength options that can make a dramatic difference.
