Not all sleep apnea metrics tell the same story.
For years, the Apnea–Hypopnea Index (AHI) has been the primary measurement used to diagnose and monitor obstructive sleep apnea. But emerging research shows that relying on a single metric may not capture the full picture of a patient’s sleep health.
New approaches to remote patient monitoring (RPM) allow clinicians to evaluate sleep apnea over time, rather than relying on isolated sleep studies. Because sleep apnea can vary significantly from night to night, longitudinal monitoring may provide a more accurate foundation for diagnosis and treatment decisions.
This article explores why understanding how sleep apnea is measured is becoming just as important as diagnosing it.
