Try not to isolate yourself, and let others help you.
Expect your mood to improve gradually, not immediately.

Social Anxiety is a serious but common condition that affects students — but there is plenty you can do about it.

Signs of Social Anxiety
Social anxiety can disrupt the person’s quality of life. A student with social anxiety may:

• Be afraid of being judged
• Dread talking to strangers
• Be afraid of being embarrassed or humiliated
• Avoid doing activities he or she would normally enjoy
• Avoid attracting attention
• Worry about upcoming activities or events
• Experience intense anxiety about participating in social activities

If you live with social anxiety that impairs your day-to-day functioning, it is important to seek help from your doctor or mental health professional. If you are diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, an effective treatment plan including CBT can help you to overcome symptoms and manage your social anxiety.

We accept Blue cross blue shield, Aetna and Cigna PPO as well as self-pay rates.

Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior that impairs daily functioning, and can be disabling.

People with schizophrenia require lifelong treatment. Early treatment may help get symptoms under control before serious complications develop and may help improve the long-term outlook.

Symptoms may include:

Delusions. These are false beliefs that are not based in reality

Hallucinations. These usually involve seeing or hearing things that don't exist

Disorganized thinking (speech)

Extremely disorganized or abnormal motor behavior

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be gone by midnight. Extend them all the care, kindness and understanding. Everyone's out here just doing the best that they can in the exact same way that you are. Spread some kindness next time you’re in a situation that your instinct wants to judge right off the bat. Take a second to think about the fact that they could be facing an issue that you could never imagine.

If you are struggling in any way remember;
Your mental health is a priority. Your happiness is an essential. Your self-care is a necessity.
You will emerge from the situation like the powerful, resilient person that you are. It can be hard to remember this when you feel like a shell of the person you once were, but trust me, you are capable of overcoming so much more!

Seek professional help if your day to day life is being affected by your symptoms.

Intrusive thoughts & How to deal with them

Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that seem to occur out of the blue. They can be disturbing and unpleasant. In some cases, intrusive thoughts are the result of an underlying mental health condition like anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The thoughts can also be explicit, for e.g. sexual nature, including fantasies. They can also be about behaviors you find unacceptable and abhorrent which can lead to people keeping them a secret and not seeking help because they feel ashamed. Intrusive thoughts are involuntary and have no bearing on reality or a person’s desires. People don't tend to act on these thoughts, typically finding them shocking, unacceptable, violent or disturbing.

These thoughts are reinforced by one getting entangled with them, worrying about them, struggling against them, trying to reason them away. They are also made stronger by trying to avoid them.

▪︎Common types of Intrusive thoughts

I)Sexual intrusive thoughts
II)Relationship intrusive thoughts
III)Religious intrusive thoughts
IV)Violent intrusive thoughts

▪︎Possible Treatments

》Exposure therapy
》Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help a person change how they think and react to these thoughts.
》Medications for OCD might include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or other antidepressants.
Although people typically use SRIs to treat depression, these drugs can help with OCD symptoms. They can take 8–12 weeks to begin working for intrusive thoughts. (Consult with your Doctor.)

▪︎ Try To:

》Label these thoughts as "intrusive thoughts" and clarifying that they are involuntary and irrelevant to daily life.
》Leave the thoughts alone, treat them as if they are not even interesting, and they will eventually fade into the background.
》Remind yourself that these thoughts are automatic and not up to you.
》Learn relaxation and stress management
》Work with your mental health professional to identify techniques and skills that help manage symptoms, and practice these regularly.
》Stay focused on your goals, Join a support group, Find healthy outlets.

▪︎Try Not To:

》Engage with the thoughts in any way, push the thoughts out of your mind.
》Try to figure out what your thoughts "mean."
》Check to see if this is “working” to get rid of the thoughts.

This approach can be difficult to apply. However for anyone who keeps applying it for just a few weeks, there is an excellent chance that they will see a decrease in the frequency and intensity of the unwanted intrusive thoughts.
If it becomes overwhelming, interferes with your normal day-to-day life, and as a result, change your behaviour because of them.. Seek help. ❤

What are at least 2 things that keep you going in life?

---Tips to keep you moving forward✍

1) Don't give up.
▪︎ Giving up may enter your mind, but find some way to keep going, even if you have to do things a little differently.

2) Stay Positive
▪︎Albert Einstein once said, “We all need to see the universe as friendly.” This is true wisdom from a great man who knew more about the nature of things than mostly anyone.

3) Go at your own pace, remember, it’s not a race. Take it one day at a time.
▪︎However don’t stop moving forward. Pretty soon, you will find that doing this work to get to the next level of your life is actually rewarding, and you will start to feel better. It can be tough going in this world we have created.

4) Even making a little progress can go a long way
▪︎The key is to stick with what you’ve started. It’s kind of like writing a book. In the beginning, you have an idea, or maybe several, but by writing one page at a time, you will complete the book and feel pretty great about yourself. 'Progress is a great healer.'

5) Recognize that what you are going through now is not permanent.
▪︎ Sadly, there are things we can do nothing about, but we have a lot more control over our own moods and actions than most people think. Whatever circumstance you are dealing with, your job is to nurture the strength within you. Doing this will bring you greater stability and success in all areas.

6) Think about your thinking.
▪︎If you don’t think you will make it, it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Research says that up to 80 percent of our thoughts are negative, and that needs to change. When you learn to recognize your negative thoughts, you can begin to think more positively, which will make you feel better about yourself and your life. Imagine having 80 percent positive thoughts!

7) Learn to deal with disappointment.
▪︎The truth is that successful people in all walks of life have to deal with disappointment sometimes. It’s part of the deal. The trick is to not let disappointments stop you. Ever!

What Are Anxiety Disorders?

While anxiety helps us evaluate our responses to dangers and threats, it can turn into a problem when it becomes the norm rather than the exception.

Happy Minds Psychiatry wanted to share some information on how with treatments, many people with anxiety disorders can manage their feelings.

Occasional anxiety is OK. But anxiety disorders are different. They’re a group of mental illnesses that cause constant and overwhelming anxiety and fear. The excessive anxiety can make you avoid work, school, family get-togethers, and other social situations that might trigger or worsen your symptoms.

》Types of anxiety disorders?
•Generalized Anxiety Disorder
•Panic Disorder
•Social Anxiety Disorder
•Specific Phobias
•Agoraphobia
•Separation anxiety
•Selective mutism
•Medication-induced anxiety disorder

》Tips to lessen your anxiety?
✔Learn about your disorder
✔Stick to your treatment plan
✔Cut down on foods and drinks with caffeine
✔Don’t use alcohol and recreational street drugs
✔Eat right and exercise
✔Get better sleep
✔Learn to relax
✔Keep a journal
✔Manage your negative thoughts
✔Get together with friends
✔Seek support

》Treatments?
•Medications -
Several types of drugs are used to treat anxiety disorders. Talk to your doctor or psychiatrist about the pros and cons of each medicine to decide which one is best for you.

•Psychotherapy -
This is a type of counseling that helps you learn how your emotions affect your behaviors.

•(CBT) -
This common type of psychotherapy teaches you how to turn negative, or panic-causing, thoughts and behaviors into positive ones.

It can take some time to find the right treatment that works for you. For most people with anxiety disorders, a combination of medicine and counseling is best. With proper care and treatment, you can learn how to manage your symptoms and thrive. ❤

It is our passion to help our patients live to their true potential.

"Our society has been historically more sensitive to physical impairments than emotional ones. If you suffer with ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or psychosis, you might not be living upto your true potential. If others cannot see your mind, pain, anxiety, depression or fears, it doesn't mean that these symptoms don't exist. If you feel these symptoms, they are real to you, they do exist and will continue to impair your quality of life. You could be living as more happy, confident and successful person if these symptoms get treated. It is my passion to help my patients live to their true potential. I try my best to develop a good rapport with my patients and to get them to trust me. It is this trust and relationship that then heals. " Dr. Mudassar Tariq, MD
