Why migraines often get worse before menopause
If you’ve never had migraines before or yours suddenly feel more intense, more frequent, or more unpredictable, there is a real reason for that.
In perimenopause (the years leading up to menopause), your hormones do not slowly fade out.
They swing.
Estrogen can rise high one week and crash the next. These rapid ups and downs are one of the strongest triggers for migraines in women. In fact, most migraines in midlife are not random. They are responding to these hormone shifts.
That is why many women in their late 30s and 40s say,
“I suddenly started getting migraines,”
or
“My old migraines became unbearable.”
Nothing is wrong with you.
Your nervous system is reacting to hormonal instability.
The good news?
When we understand the hormone pattern behind your migraines, we can often treat them more effectively, sometimes with the right type of hormone support and sometimes with a combination of hormone and neurology care.
You deserve relief, not just painkillers.
