Be honest…😬🤓🙃

If you’re and you should be (LOL), what’s the last question you asked Siri? 🤨🤦🏽‍♀️

Was it “Who is winning in the NBA playoffs?” 🏀🙌🏾

Was it “What’s the weather outside today?”🌈🌨🌤☔️

Maybe “Where is the nearest gas station?” 😫😥

Or even “Best cure for [insert medical complaint here]”😭

Regardless of the question, there is always SOMEONE or some website with the answer. Just be mindful that when it comes to medical advice related to sports injuries and recovery (maybe even prevention) there is SO much information out there and it can be hard to determine who to trust or what source of information is reliable.

So, I thought I’d help you out! If you’re a medical provider👩🏽‍⚕️, drop the name of your company, your location, and what you’re known for (I.e Pelvic Floor Specialist, Concussion management, Mental Health Counseling, Running programs) in a comment below⬇️ This allows more people to get access to providers who may be located nearby and providers who offer a safe and listening space for people in need of answers 👂🏾🫂.

Not the perfect demonstration, but a REAL demo of ways to get your strength, balance and endurance up as an athlete (I.e basketball player, runner, football player, etc)🏀⚾️🤙🏾

As always, do NOT perform unless you have a direct consult/ evaluation with a medical professional to make sure you are safe to perform this. This is just a recommendation and it isn’t appropriate for everyone (some of you may be early post-op or even have an undiagnosed problem).😬

As you can see here, I’m a little off balance with a 20 lb weight, so I recommend staying under 40 lbs male or female💪🏾. This is mainly to strength the legs, abs, back and primarily recruit as many leg muscle fibers as you can. Don’t overload your arms, there are better ways to isolate your arms😎🙌🏾.

Here are some of the songs I listen to when I’m exercising and doing strengthening and conditioning in the ‘Ville💪🏾🤛🏾🤙🏾.

Let’s be honest, the playlist matters. The voices inside your head matter when you’re trying to get in the best shape of your life to make the basketball team 🏀 or if you’re recovering from a baseball injury⚾️.

Find the voice that motivates and encourages you. What songs make your Top 5? Share with me below 😎

I hope everyone was able to ✅ off another Friday in their 2021 book.

Whether your Friday was 📉 or 📈, you still did your best and you need to give yourself credit for that.

Your time will come when you feel like it’s more play than work, when you have more time than problems, more confidence than doubt.

Keep moving. Keep aiming for better no matter the hurdles you must cross along the way 🏊🏾‍♀️🧗🏾🚴‍♂️

As long as you have a clear destination or goal in the sport of your choosing or in regards to your health and wellness, you will have no choice but to keep moving forward and be successful😎🔱.

It’s easy to forget that regret is expensive 💶..... until you have it🥺.

It’s SO easy to get trapped in the “what if”, the “what comes next” or even the “where do I go from here” and prevent yourself from experiencing what COULD be, but as true as the cliche “follow your heart”. When you follow your heart, or take the risk, or beat your fears, the next step will make more sense and you’ll wonder what took you so long to elevate and rise in your goals📈.

My best tip: Decide on the outcome you want and then make a list of steps that could get you there 💻.

For example: You want to be faster at dribbling and taking the ball up court? Perfect the accuracy in slow speed and then pick up the pace gradually🏀.

You want to get stronger? Start with low weight, high rep and then gradually increase the weight💪🏾🦾.

You want to hit more home runs? Practice your swing to various pitch angles and speeds. Keep working on your ability to adapt to an oncoming ball. ⚾️

Nothing is “easy” but you run the risk of missing out on your greatest demonstration of athleticism by running from the risk of failure.
So, tell me: What are you waiting for? 🤔

A HUGE misconception about physical therapy is that you must be in excruciating pain, be post-surgery OR a professional athlete to seek or need physical therapy and that is F.A.L.S.E 🤦🏽‍♀️

Physical therapy can be provided to A.N.Y.O.N.E of any pain level🙂🥲😫😖🤬. You may describe your pain as severe and you’re unable to play sports anymore OR you may say you’re pain is simply “annoying” or a “nagging” type of pain that allows you to play, but it just makes the sport less enjoyable for you and we will still perform a full assessment on you and listen to your concerns/ complaints!👩🏽‍⚕️

It’s true that many seek physical therapy after they’ve had an ACL repair, shoulder tear or other major surgery, BUT it’s not a requirement in order to schedule a consult by a physical therapist💪🏾.

Also: Physical therapy can be preventive! B.E.F.O.R.E an injury occurs, you can seek the professional advice of a physical therapist. It’s possible you may even avoid a surgery! 🤩 In fact, in most states you don’t even need a medical doctors referral first before seeing a PT (which would save a TON of money and be 1 less appointment to schedule) 🤯

Regardless of what level of sport you play (little league to D1 to professional athlete to weekend warrior) you still have the same access and opportunity to have your pain, weakness, tightness and other symptoms addressed😁. Get PT 1st and begin your journey to the best physical and game-ready health today 😎!

Be honest 🤞🏾: How would you rate your physical, emotional and mental health? 💪🏾🙂🧠

Monday was Memorial Day which commemorates the ultimate sacrifice that many make when serving in the military. Some reflect the loss of a soldier in arms, a brother, mother, or child. This of course can affect someone’s emotional health🇱🇷.

June is also PRIDE month and depending on where you are in your journey to self, you may not be in a place where you feel loved and protected just the way you are however that looks🏳️‍🌈.

In a couple weeks, Juneteenth will occur and it is the day in which slaves truly became free in America. It is a day to be celebrated, but also a day to reflect on how different races have and are being treated in the world today and how we should continue to strive for equality👩🏽‍⚕️👨🏿‍⚕️.

Now, you may wonder why I mention these holidays and events on this page and it’s because no athlete is JUST an athlete. You all come with a heart, brain, desires, emotions, experiences, periods of highs and lows and it’s important to address where you rank yourself (only you know how you really feel) emotionally, mentally and physically to help ensure that you’re always bringing your best A-game to the sport. And if not, what we can do about it!

So, I have to ask again: What’s your physical, emotional and mental area code on a scale from 0-10? What rank or number would you give yourself? Mine is in the comments. We are in this together 🤝

After any sports-related injury, whether during training, practice or a game, it can be hard to put yourself back in the proper mental space to help with your recovery! 😰

Depending on the severity of the injury, you can be confronted with the fear of it happening again☹️, the fear of not playing to your best potential when cleared to return or even just not feeling like you’ll ever play again. 👎🏾

Your mindset matters. Who you surround yourself with to lift you up, matters.🤝

As a physical therapist, it is my responsibility to help my athletes and players increase their confidence post injury and give them the tools they need to get back to sport feeling stronger and better than before.🦾💪🏾

Whether you are recovering or have recovered from an injury, comment below a quote you reference to in order to stay inspired and in a good mental space to play the game 🏈⚽️🏀.

Mine is commented below! ⬇️

In life, we all must decide where we place priority and value😳.

We must determine when the work stops and begins. And when it comes to sports training, there is always a muscle to be stronger, a skill to practice more, a speed yet to be obtained 😰🤯.

Let us make it easier for you with a 20 minute FREE assessment 😱 where we can tell you where you might want to put in additional work to keep your risk for injury low and your love for sport high 😎🏀🏈⚽️

Be honest, how many times a day do you Google SOMETHING??? 🧐

Maybe “where is the nearest restaurant?” 🍔 “How far is the next gas station?” 🧰 “What is the weather today?”☀️ But also, “How to get rid of ______ pain?” 😫

The last question is always a loaded one, right? 😬 Each website says something different. If you’re lucky🍀, you get pain relief options on a YouTube video demonstrated by people you’ve never interacted with who don’t know your medical history, how long you’ve been in pain or what caused it. If you’re lucky, their recommendations work, but sometimes it works and doesn’t last OR it makes things worse 😔

Have you considered typing in “Physical Therapy near me?”

Continuing to play football, continuing to run with your dog each morning, continuing to play with your kids on the floor could be less painful by googling just one more item than you usually do each day. Let us put in the work with and for you💪🏾🦾. Let us analyze your injury history and give you something that works AND lasts to treat your pain. You will get an opportunity to put a face to the name and see why we are so passionate about what we can do to improve your life 🙂👩🏽‍⚕️

Movement IS medicine💊.

It’s THE best remedy for the body’s aches and pains💪🏾.

Now don’t get me wrong, medicine definitely serves a purpose! But because so many people rely on medication to lower their high blood pressure, manage their diabetes, decrease leg swelling and the list goes on and on, many forget that movement has a role to play as well 🤓 Movement can help to improve how effective those medications are at their role and keeping you healthy enough to do what you want and what you love.

The key is MOVEMENT which is anything that gets the blood flowing and heart racing 😰. It could be as simple as kicking your feet up and down while sitting in your wheelchair, dancing with a spouse or standing up and down safely during a commercial💃🏾. Talk to your doctor (medical doctor or MD and local physical therapist or PT) about what exercises are safe and appropriate after consulting your medical history.

Movement doesn’t have to be clout worthy or over the top. It doesn’t have to start off by including heavy weights (you’ll get there, I promise! But in time 🕰) It just has to take place each day and create a habit of better blood circulation, muscle action/use and controlled strength training 🙌🏾.
