Today our inventors B class created their very own Mud house to go along with their Wonders of Africa unit. Mud houses in Africa are traditional, sustainable homes built from readily available materials like clay, mud, sand, and organic fibers, often featuring round or conical shapes with thatched roofs for natural cooling and insulation against harsh climates.

Today our Inventors class stepped into the roll of map makers and topographers! First they compared different kinds of maps and how they show the different climates of the Africa continent. Then they made a blueprint that was used to create their very own 3D topographical map!

In this exploration we made our own paint and then used it to paint a window at school! This activity encouraged self-expression, imagination, and creativity through an open-ended art experience. This practice has additional classroom benefits as regular paint stains, may run out, and can contain harsh chemicals. When we make our own paint at school we can ensure that it contains only non-toxic ingredients!
