The kid's corner is getting a facelift. We have seen several children in the office this past year both as patients, and guests of patients. We don't mind the dirt or the crayon on the wall. We have paint, and stickers.

Fantastic editorial from Oregonian Susan Jorg!

To the editor:

The results of a recent lawsuit has brought to light information which affects every American. The United States Department of Health and Human Services was asked to present information on how they were fulfilling their orders to create safer vaccines. After months of stalling they were forced by the courts to devulge that they have done NOTHING in favor of vaccine safety in the 31 years that they have held responsibility for the safety of vaccines in this nation.

In 1986 the risks of vaccines were known and many lawsuits were being filed against pharmaceutical companies for injuries and deaths due to vaccines. Victims were being awarded large payouts to cover costs of injury and loss of productivity. The vaccine manufacturers blackmailed our government into giving them freedom from liability for their product or they would discontinue the manufacture of vaccines. The Reagan administration, feeling that vaccines were indeed necessary, granted the pharmaceutical companies' request in the form of the Vaccine Injury Compensation Act (VICA). Instead, people injured by vaccines would receive compensation from the government from a tax placed on the sale of vaccines and paid by the consumer.

Imagine not being able to sue the manufacturer if your car brakes were faulty, your food was contaminated, or your child was injured by an unsafe toy.

Congress knew that fear of lawsuit was the one driving factor that worked to improve product safety. So they added to the Vaccine Injury Compensation Act the provision that the Department of Health and Human Services shall (1) promote the development of childhood vaccines that result in fewer and less serious adverse reactions than those vaccines on the market on December 22, 1987, and promote the refinement of such vaccines, and (2) make or assure improvements in, and otherwise use the authorities of the Secretary with respect to, the licensing, manufacturing, processing, testing, labeling, warning, use instructions, distribution, storage, administration, field surveillance, adverse reaction reporting, and recall of reactogenic lots or batches, of vaccines, and research on vaccines, in order to reduce the risks of adverse reactions to vaccines.

The Act also stipulated that Health and Human Services (HHS) was to report every two years to Congress as to the progress they were making in the area of vaccine safety.

On June 27, 2018 HHS sent the following response to the Freedom of Information Act request: “The [Department]'s searches for records did not locate any records responsive to your request.” In other words, they do not take their responsibility to the public seriously and have done nothing to improve the safety of vaccines.

What has happened since the Vaccine Injury Compensation Act was put in place is that the vaccine schedule for children has ballooned from 24 doses of 7 injected vaccines and 4 oral vaccines in 1983 to 74 doses of 53 injected vaccines and 3 oral vaccines in 2018. If you're free from liability then selling vaccines becomes attractive. And collusion between the government and the pharmaceutical companies continues as more state legislatures seek to make more vaccines mandatory for the whole population with no informed consent and no exemptions.

Where are the signs that vaccine injury is still with us? Approximately 30,000 adverse events regarding vaccines are reported yearly. The Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) is a voluntary system with little or no publicity. It has been determined that only 1% to 10% of actual adverse events are ever reported, so the true numbers of adverse reactions are somewhere between 300,000 and 3 million. Doctors and Coroners have been trained to overlook any connection between injury and vaccines, even though inserts provided by vaccine manufacturers list among possible injuries: apnea, anaphylactic shock, epilepsy, encephalopathy, and diabetes.

Vaccine safety science has so many knowledge gaps that the Institute of Medicine can not determine whether the timing and numbers of vaccinations given to babies and young children is or is not responsible for the development of learning disabilities – asthma – autoimmunity – autism – developmental and behavior disorders – seizures – and other kinds of brain and immune system problems. In other words, if you don't look for causality you will not find it.

We should all expect more from our government and health professionals. This problem needs to be addressed immediately. If you would like more information, I encourage you to contact the National Vaccine Information Center at NVIC.org.
