Joe never expected to need a liver transplant. He didn’t drink, wasn’t overweight, and had no family history of liver disease. But in 2021, a sudden bout of confusion led to a shocking diagnosis: end-stage liver disease from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Thanks to coordinated care from Atlantic Health System and the NYU Langone Transplant Institute, Joe received a life-saving liver transplant just four months after being put on the waitlist.
