How do YOU express ‘kindness’ in YOUR culture?

Sumner-Bonney Lake Family Resource Center was delighted to host an outreach booth at the March 28th Community Cultural Celebration - and to pose that question to families who stopped by our space. Check out their answers in the first picture! It was delightful to listen in as parents and kids thought through their answers. Many thanks to staff from the Valley of Esperanza and Sound Outreach programs for joining in the fun, as well! It was a great opportunity to share more about our Center’s services!

Words cannot express our gratitude! THANK YOU to our partners for going ALL IN for the students and families needing support this holiday season in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District!! The SBL Community Toy Box served over 229 families and 500 children and teens throughout the school district - all to make this season brighter!

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to all who donated their time, talents and treasure to pull off this 100% local community event: Dina Sutherland and Blake Holt from East Pierce Fire & Rescue; Jenna Lehman and the Gordon Family YMCA; Chief Brad Moericke and Sumner Police Department; and Skip & Mary Lee Sherwood with Trilogy Serves at the helm! Arlene Evavold, Trisha Sweeney, with volunteers and funding from Sumner Community Food Bank and the Emmanuel Food Pantry provided holiday dinners for many of our families, as well. Rotary Club of Sumner contributed 24 bicycles, and donations from The Moore Wright Group helped the Toy Box extend support to families and five more schools’ holiday programs, as well! Many thanks, too, for the work Ida Cortez and Violeta Larin contributed for organizing referrals from our school counselors. And, of course, Dave Radcliffe and The Old Cannery team donated their space, staff time and more to house our efforts! Sumner Fred Meyer provided disounts when we needed fo shop for wish list items not received via donations.

Countless others purchased toys and donated many hours of time to make this the best event ever! (We’re still compiling the list of the other servant leaders who took part, as recognition is deserved for so mamy individuals and groups who made donations, packed bags of gifts and more!)

If a family wasn’t able to pick up their toys, please contact our Center at 253-891-6153 for details about receiving your items. Thank you again!!!

Thank you, Lake Tapps Christian Church and Mary Beth Holmes for bringing LOTS of baby formula to our Sumner-Bonney Lake Family Resource Center yesterday! (We’ll call it today’s KINDNESS DAY post!) So many families have been fearful of listing access to formula. Even though it looks like WIC is funded, the requests are still coming in to our staff for supplies
We have so much appreciation for the members of this church for branding together to make a big difference in the lives of our smallest community members who are counting on us to solve problems!! What an incredible gift!

With the anticipated interruption of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the federal government shutdown, more families in our community may face food insecurity.

Gov. Ferguson has directed $2.2 million per week in state funding to support food banks across Washington so that food distribution resources remain accessible.

If you or someone you know may be affected:
📲 Call 2-1-1 to get connected with free community services and supports.
🍎 Visit PierceCountyWa.gov/FoodBanks for information on local food banks.

If you’re in a position to help, consider donating time or resources to a local food bank. Together we can support our neighbors during this challenging time.
